So, BBQ is a point of contention in our family (as it probably is in MOST Texas Families - we wanted BBQ for dinner and were reluctant to try out this new location that opened recently in Cedar Park - what follows are my (and some of my family member's) ideas about the food we ordered.
So, my idea was to eat in the restaurant - reason being you get to inhale the BBQ experience while eating your food (plus it's fresher than if you took it home) - however, the weather this night was rainy and cold, and my son convinced me that it would just be easier on everyone if we got our order to go - I did at LEAST get to SEE the inside of the place, and it was pretty typical of most BBQ places.
We ordered a large family order - a pound and a half of up to 3 meats, along with 2 loaves of french bread (a nice touch compared to the usual white bread) and 3 large sides, along with plenty of pickles and onions and a side of sauce.
Impressions - everything was packaged well enough - it got home in good shape anyway - I thought the meat was a bit on the skimpy side for the money - we got ribs, brisket, and sausage - 2 nice links, I think 4 pork ribs, and kind of a smaller amount of brisket - everything was tasty tho (I like my meat more "wet" but my son commented that the brisket was more fatty than he liked) - but as far as flavor, the meat had more of a light smokey flavor but no unpleasant aftertaste and was tasty and what we were generally craving - I guess BBQ has just gotten so expensive that it's unreasonable to expect larger serving sizes anymore.
The sides - we got green beans, potato salad, and pinto beans - right on the top of the green beans was one of those woody (inedible) been stalks (I don't think it's too much to ask for those to be removed before serving to the customer), BUT they were super flavorful - Miller puts big pieces of bacon in their green beans, along with onions and (what I tasted) is some brisket juice or something that tasted saucy and good - the potato salad was yummy - it was mustard based, pretty sweet but not too much in my opinion - also, you know how some BBQ place potato salads have kind of an off putting after taste? Not here - I love mustard based potato salads, and this didn't disappoint - finally, the pinto beans - Miller's pintos have (in my opinion) a weird color to them - they look very light in color, more gray than reddish brown (like I am used to) - while that made me hesitant to try them, my momma taught her kids (or me at least) that if you try something you might like it! They were tasty and I had another serving with my dinner.
It's both a great thing and a shame that BBQ places here in Central Texas put out such good product - we basically have our pick of some of the very best BBQ that is known to man or woman - and for that reason, I'm not sure that I would go back to this location (when I have some of my favorite joints just as close by) - while Miller's food (and service) didn't disappoint at all (they were very friendly when we ordered too), I think they may have to go just a bit further to get customers to make the change to their product - my son mentioned that Miller's prices on some of their menu items were very reasonable, and I by NO MEANS tried all that they have to offer - I'm just saying that my experience was closer to a low B grade on an A to F scale - and with high B's and A's all around us, they may need to work harder to get more business. Oh, and the sauce (while I really liked) was not the highlight of my wife or son - it was a thinner sauce with ketchup notes - I really liked it, but I guess it's not...

Other than that, Bill Miller left much to be desired. This is another one of those BBQ joints where their offerings are just high enough quality to be barely acceptable. Where the ingredients are slightly superior to school cafeteria quality, but they try their darndest to pass it off as good food, and you have to pretend it's good food if you want to enjoy it.
I wanted a baked potato, and the person who took my order told me I could get a one with meat added for $5. So I did... and I was tempted to laugh out loud at what I received. Literally just a split potato with brisket slapped on it. No cheese, sour cream, butter, veggies, herbs or spices. The waiter asked if I wanted the cheese and I accepted. He hands me a to go sauce cup of the saddest, yellowest grated cheese money could buy. It didn't even look like real cheese, probably wasn't.
Thankfully they had the topping bar that included all the baked potato essentials, as well as the all-you-can-eat minimal quality filler-upper rolls that should probably just be thrown away instead, but these all looked and tasted like they came straight from Walmart. It all came together in a sad thing that was quite bland. Even with the butter, sour cream and cheese, nothing saved this meal.
I was here with my dad, who ordered the Rancher Plate. Everything on that plate, including the banana cream pie he also ordered on the side also looked and tasted like store-bought/school cafeteria quality.
What happened to this place? I'd heard good things about Bill Miller BBQ, so maybe it was just because this was a new location? Doubtful. I would choose Smokey Mo's over this place EVERY...
Read moreWhile traveling from west texas we decided to go to one of our favorite restaurants growing up as a kid. I was so disappointed with the food we received from the drive through. We asked for no sour cream on my daughter’s baked potato and ranch with her salad. Well they decided to put the sour cream on the potato and not give us any dressing for our salad. Then we didn’t receive any pickles and onions for our 2 sandwiches. The sandwich isn’t the same without pickle and onions in my opinion. I hadn’t had bill millers for over half and year so I decided to call and make a complaint. The manager who was on duty was an Anthony Santos and he seemed bothered by me calling. I understand it was during the dinner rush but my sons and daughters dinner was ruined please take the time to hear me out. I was super offended when he cut me short and tried to offer me one free meal. Not one apology about how his employees made multiple mistakes. I understand you’re busy but please don’t cut me short with a bogus offer of $8. 3 of my 4 meals weren’t correct. A huge part of why we take our food to go is so my kids won’t make a mess in his restaurant. If I would have ate there the meal would have been amazing however the Togo didn’t work out. Please check your bags before leaving this location, just because you pay for it doesn’t mean they will place it in your bag. The manager definitely was too busy to talk but he’s probably busy fixing all his employees mistakes. Very...
