Read moreAs another described it, sort of a hole in the wall vibe but cozy. The entryway is pretty small and a young man walked up to us and mumbled something that sounded like âyouswet inbekâ. We clearly didnât understand what he was saying and he repeated it while gesturing towards the bathrooms. We saw other people waiting in the little alley by the bathrooms and walked back, realizing he meant âyou wait in backâ. An older gentlemen who didnât speak much more English asked us how many and we said two. We asked how long the wait was and he nodded and handed us a pager. I repeated more slowly and he said âtweeny, tweeny fiâ. Fair enough. They were busy but we were sat in about twenty minutes. We arrived at about 930am on a Saturday and the wait time quickly doubled, the bathroom alley now full with a new secondary line waiting outside.
We were sat in a little booth by the window, and one of the seats was broken. Fortunately the waitresses spoke much better English than the first two guys. We ordered waters, an OJ and a coffee. The waitress came back a few minutes later and realized she forgot the coffee. A few more minutes later the coffee arrived but she didnât pause long enough to take our order so the table that had been sat after us got their drink and food orders in right away. A different waitress came by a few minutes after that and we ordered a veggie skillet and the classic breakfast with NY Strip. My wife liked the veggie skillet, but my $18 NY Strip was about half fat and tasted like it had been grilled on a bed of onions. I quite like onions so that didnât bother me and I thought the eggs and hash browns were great. The coffee was decent and there were people coming around often with a pot to make sure everyone was topped off. Our waters were never refilled, and Iâm assuming the $5 juice doesnât include refills as nobody ever offered.
This small breakfast for two was around $42 before tip. Iâm posting the newest menu so you can see how much prices have gone up. We couldnât find an online menu and the one my wife found through Grubhub or whatever was barely more than 50% of the one we received.
I would go back to try something else, especially since the overall ratings stand at 4.6 today, which didnât reflect our experience. Next time Iâll probably speak Spanish to remove the language barrier and try a breakfast burrito instead of a classic breakfast. My opinion after our first visit is Waffle House is just as good for...
Read moreMy husband and I prefer to give our business to local places rather than predictable chain restaurants. However, while the food was OK at The Egg, it wasn't flavorful, it was just food. That's not why I go out to eat. I had an omelet smothered in green chili with potatoes and a biscuit and gravy. Pretty sure the gravy was from a packet mix, no flavor and runny and the green chili, no heat but also no flavor. The omelet while it had meat, cheese and veggies in it, still no flavor. But the food wasn't the real issue, although I would never go back due to lack of flavor, it was their lack of required ADA access into the restaurant that will keep us from coming back. My husband is in a wheelchair, as soon as I opened the door to the restaurant, I was shocked to see there was no way for him to go through from the very small entryway into the restaurant. I thought we were going to have to leave but looked at the single booth like seat and started attempting to move it. About the same time, the waitress came up but just stood staring at me struggling to move this when I said to her, this must be moved to make room for him to get it. She seemed clueless. I'm 64 years old, you were much younger and given ADA access is required by law, she should have taken over? After I said something, she sort of gave a 5% effort to move it but in the end it was me pushing it sideways. They put the booth back after we were seated and I remember thinking, great I'm going to have to move that again which I did in order to get my husband out with no help from them. A simple change out of getting rid of the bulky booths on that wall and put just normal chairs at the tables would open it up a bit more for mobility challenged folks. A chair would be easier to move than the heavy bulky booth. But you also need to eliminate a few tables so that it's easier to get a wheelchair though the restaurant. No way could he have made it to the restroom. I get the desire to have more tables to seat more people because that equals more money in your pocket but it's not safe and pretty sure you are over the CO limit...
