Best version of the restaurants there so far! Menu has lots of good looking things. We'll def be back again. We totally didn't plan it, but we got a beatiful sunset dinner on their patio which was lovely. We ordered the pork belly burnt ends on onion strings and those were super yummy. Surprisingly meaty and lots of onion strings. I ordered the braised beef ribs but they were out of them. Tried the broasted chix with mashed potatoes. Chicken was very juicy just not tons of flavor. Mashed potatoes were delicious, real pan style gravy with chix in it. Hubs got the pan fried walleye with wild rice and asparagus. Both sides were great! Walleye could have been more flavorful and the pan fried parts were not really crispy, moreso soggy... The smoke on the lake drink was indeed very smoky if you like that kind of drink. Straw mojito was ok. Pain killer was pretty good, I'd order another one of those. No dessert offerings. Which was fine bc we were stuffed. But we were celebrating and would have been disappointed if we we're hoping for a sweet something after dinner. Server was brand new, 1st day. Did not let us know the things they were out of right away. Was a lil slow with their handheld ordering devices. But she was kind and friendly. Hope this place stays around!

Stopping here on a Thursday night, outside patio view is what the Doctor ordered. Attentive staff and well cared for. Had the Firecracker Shrimp, Strawberry Avocado Salad and the French Dip. The shrimp was a meh... I was expecting better, the shrimp was cooked perfectly and tossed in a sauce topped with scallions and Blue Cheese as the dipping sauce... Good but not great. The salad was beautiful and really tasty... Several kinds of greens and lots of veggies served with a lemon vinaigrette dressing. Really like the salad!. French Dip ordered with caramelized and gluten free bread. They really like their onions. Beef was good, topped off with Swiss cheese. Au jus wasn't quite needed as the lower half the bun was soaked. Making the Sandwich hard to pick up. That bread was so good that it had me questioning if it was gluten free. The bread should have been grilled to give it structure to withstand the wetness. All in all really good places that I would try again, the soup and fish options have me thinking about my next trip... Clean place, clean bathrooms and of course added points for the bathroom picture of Dogs playing poker!

Duck tenders are on the menu but no longer availabe. Was really disappointing because it has been years since I've had duck and kind of really wanted to try them. Since they're not available they should either cross it off or cover it with a sticker. I had the walleye bites instead, which were pretty good. My sister and my husband split the lunch special of half sandwich and salad. My sister got the salad which was really good, my husband got the grilled cheese sandwic. It looked like the bread had been put in a toaster and then the cheese slapped on it because the bread was not really cooked and the cheese was definitely not melted. We also never got refills on our drinks. It wasn't terrible, but would probably not come here again, but I've been to worst places.

I looked forward to a lovely evening out after working 10-hour shifts for the last ten days. We all know that in this economy, it's not cheap to go out to eat or hit the drive-through; it's a treat. Tonight, we decided to try a new place. Unfortunately, it wasn't an experience I can recommend.

I decided to go simple and order a burger. (It was me and two others ordering burgers tonight) I bit into my burger before my mom and sister, and I knew immediately that I wouldn't be able to eat it as it was way too "pink" for my liking. When the waitress returned, I sent it back because I couldn't stomach it (plus, as I said, when things are this expensive, you want to pay for something you genuinely want/enjoy). My mom ended up cutting into her burger after mine, which was also way too pink for her. The waitress was annoyed that we were now sending two burgers back (this is where my frustration began, and I wouldn't have written a review if it wasn't for this). As my mom apologized, she cut her off and said, "Well, we cook our burgers to medium, so we need to know that beforehand. (As if we should have just known that.) This bothered me because I found it rude when we were being nothing but kind and apologetic for the inconvenience. I looked at the menu to see if we overlooked a disclaimer saying burgers cooked to medium, which we didn't find on the menu, so I found that comment to be rude. She came back to check on the third burger and was snippy and completely ignored my mom talking to her; at this point, I was shocked by how she was towards us and wished we could have put cash down on the table and walked out. The waitress returned with two "fresh burgers" (still pink) and the cold fries we were served with the first burgers. By now I've just lost my appetite. She then realized that we were unhappy about her interaction with us, and my mom told her that maybe next time, she could inform the customer instead of assuming we knew. She then starts talking with a normal "customer service" tone. She explains how they have gone back and forth from cooking burgers medium well and back to medium as other customers complained about medium-well burgers. The bill was just over $66 for three burgers and three sodas. In this economy, you want to pay for something you will enjoy, which was apparently inconvenient for the staff here, which is disappointing. I had hoped to have found a new place to chill and enjoy a burger after a long day.

Please consider informing customers of how burgers are cooked, especially when it's been an issue, and ultimately consider customer service. Good customer service is dying off...

I really, really want this to be what they want to be but, sadly, I don't think they are there yet. I have been there twice with high hopes but, so far, it seems like false advertising.

The website claims the food is for an adventerous palate but so far the food has only been fine, but nothing spectacular. The french fries are pictured on the menu as being a standard cut but they only offer crinkle cut or waffle. I have only tried the crinkle cut and they were very bland and, if they weren't frozen in a bag from a grocery store, they tasted as if they were. My husband felt the same about the onion rings he had. He also did not enjoy the gravy that had chunks of food in it. On our second trip, I just had the chips and they were much better than the fries. My husband did have the fries and was just as unimpressed as I was. Their craft cocktail pictured on the menu is in the appropriate glass but my margarita arrived in a tall, skinny glass. I know this may seem petty to people but again, the false advertising, plus this is my least favorite glass to drink from. The other thing about the margarita is that the menu said it was made with fresh lime juice, which is why I ordered it. We make our own margaritas at home and that margarita tasted more like a mix than fresh lime juice.

There is a man with a very long, bushy beard that works there. From the patio, I could see him back in the kitchen. I am not sure if he has anything to do with prepping, cooking, plating, or delivering food but, if he does, he needs to either braid his beard or wear a hair net around it. The thought of hair hanging over someone's food really makes me sick to my stomach.

The servers each time have been great. I have no problem with the service at all. The atmosphere itself is disappointing because they have not made any changes since it was the Grumpy Minnow and just feels like I am dining at the Grumpy Minnow (which was an extremely disappointing restaraunt).

This area desperately needs and deserves what this restaurant is trying to be. Everything around here is so bland and unexciting. I really applaud them for recoginizing this and trying. I am not giving up on Jakes on the Lake yet; however, I will be giving them more time before...

never been here before .Arrive at about 9:00 p.m.. I was told kitchen was closed. You want next door grab? Food came back around 10:30. Seated ourselves next to the only group in the restaurant. There was a band playing that was extremely loud. Made it hard to talk. Server came and served the group next to us after about 10 minutes of being there. Looked at us and walked away. Where did another 10 minutes with no service?. It got up and went to the bar. There was no server to be found. Walk towards the back bathroom area and watch the server. Go into the kitchen. Walk to the bathroom. Go to the kitchen and disappear again. Never acknowledge me. In the course of 10 minutes of standing there 11 to be exact. At that time I used the restroom came back out. Still no server to be found. Sat down to talk to my partner. After about another 5 minutes we were just about to leave to go find somewhere else. The server finally walked out and played her down. I explained we've been without service for almost a half hour of being there. Server got very defensive and said that she was in the cooler. Explain to the server that she served the party that was next to us which by that time they had consumed their drinks and left the restaurant before we got service. Server had a attitude and said that she didn't see us but I know she looked at me when she was serving that party. Was not impressed by the service at all nor by the attitude to server gave us. Definitely will not recommend or return again. I would recommend finding other establishments.if your Looking for a...
