I have never posted a review on Google, until today. It is impossible to get decent asian food within a 15 mile radius of North Branch. The Asian restaurants up here are atrocious, so I often look further south. When I found this place on Google with 24 reviews, all with 5 stars, I thought I had found the diamond in the rough.
Nope... Clearly any review less than 5 stars doesn't make it here, because this is no better than what is up here if not worse. First I will say that the service was prompt. 10 minutes to make the food and with no one at the restaurant, I was in and out quickly. Prices were also decent and portions were good. The problem is the quality of the food is seriously lacking. I don't care how prompt service is and how generous portions are if the food is not desirable.
The sesame chicken has to be the worst I have ever had.. period. It was overly sticky-sweet with no real flavor. 1/5 stars.
The chicken chow mein had decent pieces of chicken, but was over cooked and was just plain bland. I guess the upside to that is it wasn't doused in soy sauce and taste like a salt lick like other asian restaurants in the area. 2/5 stars.
My wife had the chicken pho and said it was pretty bland. I have never had pho before, but thought the broth was ok. The big problem was the chicken was undercooked, which is unacceptable! She rated it 2/5 stars, but with undercooked chicken I don't even know what to say.
Overall, I will never eat here again, which is too bad being that I like to support small businesses. I really had hoped that this was going to be my go to asian restaurant. I am very skeptical about the perfect 5 star ratings from all 24 reviews before my review and felt obligated to post a review. Maybe the restaurant was having a bad day,...
Read moreMarch '25 Update. Duh me! Wish I'd read my review from 7 yrs ago before popping in there again. Still a disaster restaurant. Not sure how they get any stars or how they're still in business. Here's my latest experience: Sesame chicken--ok but soggier than any we've had. Fried rice--dry and lacked flavor-- even with soy sauce poured in it! Chicken Pad Thai-- where's the sauce?? Omg so dry and tasteless.... and no, soy sauce didn't help it! Had to stop and buy a $6 bottle of Thai sauce on my way home to try to improve it. Fried cream cheese won tons -- I've never had worst ones! Over cooked and hard to crack to try to eat what little bit of cream cheese was inside.
Final advice: RUN... don't walk away! Seriously, save your money!
We used to love this place and I hadn't been there in a year so was in for a big surprise when I stopped tonight for takeout! I guess they changed owners a year ago (?). Ordered veggie egg fu young and didn't get what I get at other restaurants: the veggies cooked inside with a side of gravy. I got puffed egg patties with veggies on top :-( there wasn't enough sauce to even dip the dry patty into and it lacked any real flavor. Disappointing..plus the cost was ridiculous! The chicken pineapple was "ok" but the fried rice was tasteless. Lesson learned: I need to stick with what's good in North...
Read moreEdit update: Bummer! I really want to keep ordering from here but I think this was my last meal there. New owners means new recipes and new cooks. Asian To Go has gone through a lot of owners but the food has tasted the same. I think they’re trying to make the popular recipes as close as they can but either the old owners held back ingredients and instructions or the new owners put their own spin on things but they’re falling short. The last time my family ordered we were not pleased. I tried to give them one more try and my sesame chicken tasted as if it was leftover from the day before then microwaved to serve. I called and was offered to come back for a free replacement meal. I took it home and still the same, the pieces that were a little crispier than others the chicken tasted like rubber. It makes me sad because they are exceptionally kind people.
We’ve been eating here for over 12 years. It never disappoints! My husband’s favorites are the pork egg foo young and egg rolls. My kids gobble up the orange chicken and lo mein. I love it all, especially their oyster wings (Non-spicy for us) and their fried rice is fantastic. We have a family battle on who’s local Asian take-out is better and Asian To-Go always...
