I have been going here my entire life, I am 30 years old, growing up this restaurant and Shipwreck which as far as I know is not open anymore were the places to get seafood, specifically all you can eat catfish. I went this last Friday the 23rd of September 2016 and although the rest of the food was the same I've always remembered the catfish have gotten impossibly small to clean the meat of of it and eat. I had to ask for 3 extra baskets of fish, the largest fish being only may be 10 inches when it was taken out of tge water, the smallest was about 6 inches so they averaged about 7 inches long. I had to completely clean an entire fish just to get a bite and tbey no longer offer fillets due to the minute size of the fish. This is completely unacceptable and has shown how the owners have gotten cheap as younger catfish are cheaper due to not having to be fed as much due to their short lifetime and not having to be taken care of long. I will never go back as I also heard many around me complain about the clam strips being rubbery meaning they've either been sitting for a long period of time or more than likely overcooked. My date had the shrimp and for 12.95 she barely got any shrimp and they too were overcooked. I always try to support my community by going to mom and pop shops stores and restaurants but if I want catfish again I will go to O'Charleys where I only have to pay 3 more dollars for a large portion of catfish and more than 2 side selections which is Fries or a baked potato. The batter on both the fish and shrimp had no flavor. The only thing that was not overcooked on my fiances plate was the baked potato. Their Cole slaw is nothing but cabbage and a dressing. Basically if you want seafood drive to red lobster in Perry or go to Macon. Snellgrove will no longer get my money or any one I know's money. Lastly when we went to pay we coukd have walked out without paying as no one was manning the register and there were only 2 people, a couple, eating at the front tables and the people ahead of us did just walk out and now that I think back I should uave left a 20...
Read moreI’m from Florida and have had some of the freshest and most delicious fried seafood you can find, but little did I expect this little Mom and Pop restaurant only open for dinner three nights a week to have fried catfish that would rival them all. Daaaaaaaaaaaang! The whole meal was delicious, but ironically my favorite bite was even on my seafood platter. I got the Captain Andy’s platter which was wonderful. Each type of seafood was cooked to perfection and I appreciated that they didn’t use the same batter on all the different types of options on the plate, but the best fish that was oddly not included was the Catfish. In my opinion, they should just have a section of the menu where it’s the “Catfish Combo” section where every meal comes with catfish and you just pick the other seafood options you want to go with it.
The scene when we arrived was obviously a green flag. A bunch of elderly retired folk and families were lined up outside the door just before 5:00 pm waiting to get in. It was in the mid-90’s so we stayed in the car until the line started moving, but they seated us efficiently and the wait to place our order was well attended by two different waitresses. One lady came to get our drink order while our main waitress, Jamie, came by periodically to let us know where we were in order of the tables that were sat before us. Jamie was very attentive and came around regularly to check on us and to refill our half and half tea that she poured simultaneously from two jugs of tea that she carried with her almost constantly, half from the sweet jug and the other from the unsweetened. The ratios were remarkably balanced the whole time. She was the picture of southern hospitality.
If you’re ever in the area and have a hankering for some proper fried seafood, don’t be shy and stop by Snellgrove Ssafood. You won’t be disappointed, especially if Catfish is part...
Read moreWhen we arrived, we had to wait a little over 10 minutes to be seated...definitely not because they were crowded but bc the cashier was chatting with a customer and ignoring us. (1st chance to leave but didnt bc the place was recommended). Even though there were tables up front, we were seated in the back in a less lit area. (2nd) The waitress acknowledged us but said she would be back bc food was draining. Other waitresses were over talking about they were chastised when they were standing around bc they had nothing to do but the owner had been talking with them earlier when it was slow. After order was placed and food brought out the waitress went on and on about not sharing pickles and coleslaw that huge slices of onion on it. No worries about sharing ANY of it. The fish was so tiny (nothing like the pictures). It was lukewarm and tasteless. The fries were not fresh. They tasted like they had been re-dropped in grease, were dark and hard. The second order of fish had to be sent back bc it wasn't even lukewarm and it was replaced with some that was dropped back in the grease but none of it was freshly cooked. The best thing...
