I really don't like leaving bad reviews, especially for small businesses. On Monday November 14th my wife and I for the first time decided to call in a lunch order at The City Cafe located in Centreville AL and do takeout.
Ordered two of the daily specials and one cheeseburger with fries for our son. The daily special was baked chicken, peas, corn, rolls and drinks. Paid $32 and change for the meal.
When we got home we realized we didn't receive our rolls and the three drinks we ordered had no taste. We didn't get an option on what drinks we wanted. They were mystery drinks and ready with our food when we arrived at the restaurant. Figured we would choose our drinks when we got there. Keep in mind this was our first time ordering food from this restaurant, so we didn't know what to expect. The mystery drinks we are assuming were unsweetened tea, not really sure. They had ice and were brown liquid!
The baked chicken was OK not really seasoned and only got one piece each. The best part was the corn. The worst part were the peas, their taste was off!
Our son had the cheeseburger and fries. The fries were very plain and no matter the amount of salt or ketchup they didn't taste that good. The burger itself was OK, we ordered it with everything. It didn't come with lettuce, like most burgers do. The burger kind of tasted like a big Mac you would get at McDonald's. My son was unable to finish the burger and let me take a bite of it so I would know what it tasted like. He said it was an OK burger!
PROS: Friendly Staff & Nice atmosphere CONS: Food can use more seasoning, need bigger servings/portions & need better quality control
Not sure if we caught you on an off day. Again sorry for the bad review, maybe in the future we will...
Read moreI love The City Cafe in Centreville. I’ve been there many times over the years. It’s always a difficult choice for me between the fried pork chops, catfish fillets or the made to order chicken livers. Why? Because they’re all just so good! There’s also a daily lunch special in addition to the regular menu options. If you’re looking a great tasting home cooked meal, at a reasonable price, in a friendly setting, with good local folks, then look no further. The City Cafe in uptown Centreville, Alabama is your place. Do as I do when I'm in the area, check them out and see...
Read moreOn a northbound driving trip through Alabama we stopped in at this unassuming place for a bite (so as to avoid the usual fare at typical roadside fast food chains). In so doing we met the mayor, the police chief and a retired journalist having lunch together at one of the tables. What ensued was a conversation for the ages -- and some 100% delicious food from the amazingly friendly owners. What a great decision to stop by. The experience left us in such a great mood the rest of the day. Very...
