BakeLab Patisserie — Restaurant in Champaign

I don't drink coffee, so I can't comment on that. I came here for a few hours of work before hitting the road, and it was a decent spot for that—not the quietest, but better than other options. If you're planning to take meetings here, you'll definitely need to rely on the mute button and good headphones. I ordered a tea, which I didn’t drink, just to pay my “rent” for the table. I also got a croissant, but I don’t really care for either, so I can’t say how they were.

The staff was friendly—unlike some places where baristas can feel cliquey or make not-so-discreet comments about patrons. Here, either they were discreet or not talking about people at all. I worked by a window on a chilly day, but the temperature inside was comfortable. The bathrooms were clean, which is always a plus, and I had no issues with the Wi-Fi.

All in all, this is a solid place to work. I can't judge the food, but the atmosphere was pleasant, and I'd recommend it for anyone needing...

WOW! I am blown away by my experience here, today! It was my first time here, or at any BakeLab, but I am now afraid that it may become a daily habit. Firstly, the Manager, Layla, is the perfect hostess! Not only is she a very competent Barista, she is very warm, welcoming, and personable. As she made my drink and got my order together, she shared the history of BakeLab, and its owner.

I then enjoyed eating the MOST DELICIOUS croissant I have EVER eaten in my life! It was an almond croissant, and was much much richer & tastier than croissants I've eaten in Paris. I kid you not! And the coffee was delicious, as well. I had the Fall Sensation - I believe that's what it's called - latte.

Super cozy space with a good selection of drinks and food. The person running the register was very sweet in answering my questions. I ended up getting their salmon king sandwich; the oven was off so I had it as a cold meal but I think I prefer that over warm. It was savory and a good portion size, I just wish that the salmon covered more of the bread instead of being mostly tucked into the front/back. Overall great for a quick place to get an easy lunch or sit and relax, there was some very comfy looking...
