El Toro at the Fields — Restaurant in Champaign

We came here to have a good dinner with our friends, showed up around 6:15, HAD TO ASK for menus almost an hour later. After we received menus we still did not receive any kind of service to order our food. I understand when places are busy..I really do. I worked in the food industry for 4 years..but to sit down a group of people WITHOUT menus for an hour? And then we have to ask to get a menu? And we have to ask to even order our food? Is a tad bit ridiculous. Never again will I be giving this el toro restaurant our business again with how we were treated by the staff. We drove over to toro loco in Urbana, told them what happen and our chips, drinks, and food (all fresh) was out in 10 mins! If the waiter at el toro on the fields would have taken care of us….he would have received a $40 tip, but since they didn’t care to take care of our table we left and went and got better...

El Toro is a quintessential "just ok" Mexican restaurant. The food is decent, and the selection is fair, but you're not particularly getting an amazing deal or having some fantastic food. You'll find all the standard Mexican restaurant staples here, as well as a few more authentic favorites. As mentioned earlier the food is fine, but nothing to write home about.

The staff is friendly and happy to help you with the menu, accommodate times you need to make decisions, etc, and one big benefit of the location seems to be that you can more easily reserve for larger parties.

Finally, I'll say it's a big deal to find a good Mexican restaurant in the midwest -- with El Toro, you've satisfied part of that trick... but the other part and more important part... It's worth exploring other areas to see if you can find more compelling food and a more...

i can’t speak to any other dish besides the shredded chicken quesadilla, so read this review with a grain of salt. these are the best chicken quesadillas i’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting in my entire life. i yearn for the recipe, as every waking moment is consumed by the thought of these quesadillas. i can’t concentrate on my school work because of these quesadillas. when i cook or eat anywhere else, the food is always compared the the deliciousness of these quesadillas, which is just unfair. i have no complaints about the service, it’s always fast and great. honestly, as long as i get the chicken quesadilla i know and love, the server can spill an entire tray of drinks on me and i would still thank him. come to el toro. get the shredded chicken quesadillas....
