Birrieria & Micheladas #2 — Restaurant in Channelview

My husband and I made the trip yesterday evening for late lunch/early dinner (around 4pm). I saw a post on TikTok from a creator who said the food was good and they also have a family farm (only a few minutes away) where you can visit as well. We did not get to visit the farm yesterday, but do want to return again to visit! We ordered 3 alcoholic beverages total (beer-Rita, cardi B colada, blue fish w/ mezcal); they were around $12-$15 each. I personally liked all 3, my husband only liked his. We ordered the big platter of Birria (beef) which came with tacos, green tacos (just a green tortilla), and mini/regular quesadillas. We got a good amount of consommé (a cup each) as well as toppings (cilantro/onion/lime). We also enjoyed the free chips/salsa and ordered a small side of queso as well. Both my husband and I really enjoyed the salsa and the chips.

We spent around $115 total which included the platter (around $43) , the 3 alcoholic beverages (around $43) the queso ($4) and the tax/tip (around $25). We did take enough leftovers for 1 extra meal/serving if that helps.

We read several low reviews before going in, which we were mindful of to see if we experienced those things (they’ll be paraphrased): “waited long time, couldn’t sit down” We did not experience this. In fact, we were there between lunch and dinner rush so there were only a few tables with customers, we were at a table in less than a minute. “waiter/waitress didn’t check on us” We didn’t experience this either. We were checked on several times and if we were not approached first, we were able to easily grab the attention of the employees to get what we needed. “long wait, food not fresh”. We didn’t experience this either. The wait times were appropriate and there was no indication that the food was not fresh. The food appeared to be and tasted fresh. “staff doesn’t speak English”. I was fully planning on using my not-good-Spanish to communicate, to make it easier for the staff if needed, but the staff were able to be understood and communicated with without issue. Even if they only spoke Spanish, how hard is it to point to something on the menu or use google translate??? Feel like people were just being kind of petty/unkind with this one. “food plain, no seasoning”. We both thought the food was flavorful and tasted good. We drove around 1.5 hours away from our home to try this restaurant and have decided that we would definitely go back. We both love quesabirria and my husband said the only place that he knows for sure tasted better than here is a restaurant in the valley (near Mission, Tx). While there are a couple good options between here and home, I would still consider driving the distance to eat here.

I was visiting my family in Texas and we decided to eat at this restaurant. We were a party of 8, they seated us and everything was fine until the server began to take our order from one end of the table instead of having proper server etiquette and going to each one of us so we didn’t have to shout out to her. Then, things turned even worse. 6 dishes came out, we began eating and thought okay our two other guests should be getting their food shortly… NOPE! 6 of us finished eating and my two other family members never got their order. No one came and checked on us, my brother had to literally get up and go ask the server what happened to the two other plates that were ordered. She apparently forgot to order them… but then again another 20 minutes passed and still no dishes. Again, no apology, no care in the world. We instead told them to just give us the check and forget about the plates. We decided we would just go and get them something else on the way home. They took forever yet again to bring the check, and still no apology! I am at a loss for words. You guys ruined our family dinner. It was not a pleasant experience and the food was not very good....

Very disappointing experience. We walked in at 11:45 am and finally got sat down at noon - table for 2. They sat us outside because they were full inside.

We were given 1 menu to share because they did not have enough. The waitress took our drink order but never came back with our drinks or to take our orders.

We finally walked out at 12:30 pm because we never got service and went to have lunch somewhere else. We walked right past our waitress who was carrying a silver jug and she didn't even notice us. Looks like she got sidetracked doing something else and forgot about us.

There was no hostess. Different people would come sit you, be taking orders, and doing other things so it was easy for customer service to decline.

Do not accept sitting outside because they will forget about you like they did with us.
