The only disappointment in an otherwise wonderful day at the Udvar-Hazy Center. Please do yourself a favour and take some sandwiches for the numerous benches outside the museum (which you’d have to eat before going in, or eat elsewhere before visiting). The site salvages a second star on food because it was, at least, tasty, but more than 20 minutes waiting for it (and it was by no means at its busiest) provided ample time for some sort of a seating cop to evict our young disabled son from a “reserved area” that the group holding said reservation was using only between 2/3 and 3/4 of (incidentally, while she ignored another group sat there and unconnected with the reservation-holding group - anyone would think deliberately targeting the person with a disability). That’s perhaps not the greatest accolade for her management if she’s allowed to behave like that, and rudely as well, when people were simply trying to innocently avoid some of the crowding and noise for the well-being of their child (noting it’s also prohibited to take the food out of the venue) not to mention her also using expletives in the seating area, which as you might imagine for the venue contained a sizeable child population. Once we had our food, the same employee then evicted from the same area (which incidentally wasn’t marked as reserved with any signage) another group with a child who may have been suffering from severe alopecia areata or could well have been recovering from chemo - not a classy move. Not at all.
Regarding the nuts and bolts: the food was tasty as I mentioned (the patties somewhat overdone in places - charred on the outside is fair enough, but all the way through makes for a less pleasant crunch!). However, the preparation wasn’t synced up very well (perhaps just coincidence) and the number of preparers vs servers seemed out of proportion (a management area again), which seemed to slow the process and meant a backlog of food under the heating lamp. Running out of fries then meant that our food sat on a tray outside the heating lamps for several minutes while the server waited on fries, leading to somewhat variable temperature. We shared one fries and three entrees (including one of the cheapest ones on the menu, the hot dog) with a few drinks between the four of us and still ended up paying $60… to be forced to sit where managing a disability became a notable challenge, treated rudely, put up with profanity, and eat food that as I mentioned was tasty enough but an age coming and not well managed to ensure it was even all still warm. A poor show. Bring your sandwiches and enjoy a wonderful visit to the otherwise...
Read moreTL;DR Avoid wasting your money here - only get custard.
To start off, either the employee couldn’t understand English well, or the music they were playing in their AirPods Pro’s was too loud. I asked if I could use comp credit here and she thought I was ordering a shake. I quickly gave up with that once I realized she just wanted to take my order and be done. Prices here are 15-20% more than a standalone Shake Shack and the service is 15-20% slower. I was the last person to order, 9 minutes before closing at 4:51pm, and waited 11 minutes for my food even though no one else was being served. I ordered chicken bites, which I did not like, but it was my first time trying, so it is my personal taste talking. The fries were undercooked and subpar for the usual Shake Shack standard. The two stars are SOLELY for the custard, which they can’t mess up because they get it ready to serve. Delicious custard as usual. Water cups here are smaller than Shack Shakes standard. The employee who handed me my food was very kind. The next time I’m here I will only be...
Read moreDuring our visit to Shake Shack, we encountered unprofessional behavior that marred our experience. The general manager accused me of theft regarding two cups for our 2 and 5 year old kids. Later, it was confirmed by the cashier that she had provided the cups to us. Additionally, we had ordered two bottles of drinks and two apple juices prior to this incident. The lack of accountability and resolution from the management was deeply disappointing. I was offered to return to the same location and talk to the same person; however, that incident remains the most unforgettable in my whole life, and I'd prefer not to visit that location anymore.
update: After reading through several reviews, I noticed the general manager's name (Howard Radis) mentioned in low-rated reviews, with reports of him displaying the same attitude towards other customers. Unbelievable that he is still employed there and that no action has been taken. This must be an issue with the entire...
