First off let me say that I did not know this place existed and it came to me by recommendation of a friend after seeing someone elseâs TikTok video. Iâm usually open to trying new things and opted to give this place a try although I was skeptical.
This spot is located on Beatties Ford road in a strip plaza almost across the street from the police station.
At first entrance, youâll think youâre entering a banquet hall of sorts as there is a small seating area at the very front. After you get past that section you enter a large area with lots of tables and chairs.
Now hear me out, that skating rink carpet threw me for a loop when I entered. I actually donât like eating in any restaurant with carpet on the floors. This made me even more skeptical.
I perused the menu as if I didnât check it out online before entering and was set that I was going to stick to appetizers.
I ordered 2 of the crawfish egg rolls (that damn guy from TikTok hyped it up so I went with it), gator bites, and the Strango lemonade.
Now, in the TikTok video, the egg roll that he had didnât look like the ones I got. The egg rolls werenât properly wrapped which did not provide the proper âgripâ that you expect from an egg roll. Beyond that, the cabbage inside was severely overcooked and it lacked a crunch- everything was soft. I really did not see many pieces of crawfish but there was an overwhelming âfishyâ after taste. I believe seaweed was added and that may have contributed to the taste. I also donât believe that the sweet and sour dip properly accompanied the egg rolls. In the video I saw a cream based sauce and had that expectation and believed this may have been a better option. The cabbage needs some life, maybe a little crunch and not cooked soft, maybe add peppers and some other seafood to make it fuller and with that seafood taste without the overpowering âfishyâ after taste. I felt a little kick but the eggroll fell short for me.
NOW, the egg roll make not have been wrappinâ but those gator bites were SLAPPING! Seasoned perfectly, lightly breaded and fried. That dipping sauce for the gator bites was delicious and maybe that can be the eggroll sauce. The sauce for the gator bites is really good and should be packaged!
I purchased the strawberry lemonade drink as well and it is decent; however if you have Sugar (diabetes) leave it alone because your numbers will be off the charts!
I did inquire about the location and received some information behind this location being more of a flex space and them operating in the kitchen space mainly. I do like the initiative behind this space and the space across the street so I will support them.
But please revisit those egg rolls because I was disappointed in what I received. Keep doing whatever it is that youâre doing to those gator bites, in fact- do the same to some chicken and you maybe on...
Read moreWe tried several dishes and everything was great! Admittedly, I was a bit skeptical because of location and the fact there was only 1 other person in the restaurant. I cant believe this place doesnt have a line out the door! All of our food was fresh and hot! The restaurant seating area was very clean, quiet, and empty. Again, I was shocked that this place didnt have a line out the door. Here's Everything we Tried Flamin Hot Boudin Balls: 10/10. The hot cheeto dust didnt make it spicy as I thought it would. Gator Bites - 10/10 seasoned well! Although some where not as meaty and appeared to be just fried breading. And a bit more chewy than I've had before. Shrimp: 10/10 seasoned well. Fried lightly and PERFECTLY! Red beans & Rice - 10/10 deep flavors, that rich roux, oh my! Wonderful! Seafood Gumbo - 10/10 that good gumbo flavor, multi levels of flavor, plenty of seafood in the gumbo, served with saltine, crackers. Breading dessert - I forgot what its called but it was warm and gooey and yummy. Too sweet for me, so I only had 1 bite. Everything is packaged ToGo but you can eat in, so as I was skeptical and wanted to check our food - once I smelled that gumbo, I instantly said, let's sit down and eat it now! No cap! We wanted to try the crawfish egg rolls but they were sold out. Strango - 10/10: Its a mix of strawberry, orange, and mango sweet tea. It was too sweet for me though. The food is very affordable- we spent around $60. Service was nice. Gentleman who was taking orders was kind, and young lady who came out from the kitchen was kind as well....
Read moreI had such high hopes for this place. The service was great and we were welcomed upon walking in. We got the fish po-boy(3/10). It was soggy, lacked flavor overall and was mostly bread. We also ordered the crawfish egg rolls (0/10) and they were a huge let down. It was mainly cabbage, not enough filling and the egg roll overall was soggy. The boudins balls (5/10)were okay. The honey lemon pepper and barbolo wings (5/10) were also just okay. The red beans and rice(3/10) were okay just not what we were expecting. The potato salad(0/10) was the biggest let down for us. In our opinion, it was not good at all and bad to be thrown away. We also got the peanut butter praline(9/10) which is the best thing we had. Lastly, the strango (7/10)was good if you like super sweet drinks. We mixed it with champagne to tone it down. We would have also tried the bread pudding and seafood gumbo but they were out. We visit NOLA a lot and were hoping to have a gem close by that is reminiscent of NOLA. Iâm hoping it was just a bad day because the reviews were so good and we were expecting...
