I got takeout for my family. The person over was extremely nice and very helpful with my order. When I got to the restaurant my food was packed and ready to go and the cashier was happy to add a drink for me.
The atmosphere when I entered was very in line with their sign saying they'd been open since 1933. The lighting was perfect. Everything was clean and I'd say half of your meal was the experience of eating there.
We got a burger with onion rings, chicken tenders with fries, and quesadillas with sweet potato fries, and two cheeseburger sliders. The total was about $70. So about $15 per meal and $10 for the sliders. Which is pretty much in line with food from a restaurant these days.
I enjoyed my sweet potato fries. I did need to add a little salt. My quesadilla was enjoyable but not great. I would ask for the salsa and sour cream to be separate because they were together. It also could have been crispier and had more than just cheese and chicken. I did ask for chicken and steak but it was just chicken.
My mother-in-law enjoyed her cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, Swiss cheese and mushrooms. She enjoyed her meal and ate her leftovers.
My husband got chicken tenders with fries. The fries he called ok. He didn't eat them all and didn't finish them later. We did hear them up and they would have been better fresh I think. There were a lot of tenders about six. They were thin for restaurant tenders and my husband said they were over cooked. He called them passable but did eat the rest later so they were edible.
We got onions that nobody ate. They looked a little burnt. The sliders were your common sliders they weren't anything special but they were cooked well.
I would recommend eating in because the food would have been better fresh and I think the restaurant's atmosphere would have made up for...
Read moreIn April 2019, I ate here with a large group of friends who used to go weekly on Wednesdays. I decided I wanted to have a grilled cheese and a beer. They sell a grilled cheese for $6.75, with the option of adding bacon and tomato for an extra $1.75. I asked our waitress whether I could get chicken in lieu of the bacon/tomato and she said it would be no problem. At the time, she did not indicate that it would cost any more than the standard $8.50.
The food was just OK - far too much bread with respect to the other ingredients. However, when the waitress brought the check over, I immediately started laughing and called her back, thinking there must have been a mistake. She charged me $6.75 for the sandwich, plus a whopping $7.75 for the chicken add-on. I couldn't believe it! This number is not stated anywhere on the menu, and for reference, the cost to add chicken to a salad is only $5.00. So somehow I was being charged $14.50 for a grilled cheese.
I asked if there was anything she could do and she said no, that's what it costs. There are a few chicken sandwiches on the menu that cost between $10.50 and $11.50. I asked if she could ring me up for one of those instead, and she said no. I explained that I never would have ordered this had she warned me, and she told me that if I wanted chicken, I should have ordered something with chicken on it.
What a way to treat customers! I ended up just paying for it (leaving 0 tip) but I will never go back. The weekly group doesn't go anymore either, as a direct consequence of this incident. Attaching...
Read moreProvidence Road Sundries is a great spot for watching games, eating/drinking with friends and family meals. The left side of the restaurant has a bar, high tops and booths and caters more to adults. The right side has booths and tables and caters primarily to families/kids.
The menu has solid bar food. It consists of bowls, salads, tacos/wraps, burgers and sandwiches. We’ve tried most of the menu over multiple visits and the Cowboy Burger and Pimento Grilled Cheese are our favorite handhelds. The Chicken + Black Bean and Rice bowl is super hearty as well and worth a try.
Service is good and the owners are cool. It can take some time for food during peak lunch times - especially on weekends when it’s packed. The only downside to this place is the parking. sundries shares a tiny front and back lot with Pasta & Provisions and it’s really hard to not only get a spot but to turn into the shopping center depending on the traffic coming down Providence. We usually just park alongside CCK in the adjacent neighborhood to avoid the hassle. It’s a great local, family owned spot that caters...
