We ended up here because the other place down the road (won’t say the name as it’s not about that place) was packed and did not want to wait 45 minutes to sit. Much like Carousel Diner in NH , this place is fantastic in terms of food. We got 3 different meals and all 3 were amazing (I highly recommend getting the meat lovers wrap). The price is fair; but I have some issues with the place. First the booths are very small, I mean I could not enjoy my delicious meal as I was hitting elbows with my wife the whole time. I’m sure a party of one or two this would be okay, but anymore than 2 it is uncomfortable. Our server was a very nice young lady but when I asked if they had sweet tea and she said yes, I expected sweet tea not some raspberry brisk tea. After finishing my tea, I had asked for a refill and placed my glass at the end of the table; she walked by 4 times, got refills for the older couple next to us but ignored mine. I never got a refill so even though I enjoyed my food, I bet it would of tasted even better if I had something to wash it down with. Next there is not much atmosphere, they have a TV on with no volume, you can hear literally everyone’s conversation & to me that’s kind of eh. Lastly aside from all that, this is an issue of mine personally & should not be used when determining coming here unless you have the same problem as me. I suffer from Crohn’s disease & when I have to go, I have to go. They have one bathroom, which isn’t terrible except when there is a line of people waiting. I had to wait 15 minutes for the waitress (the same one who was our server) to get out the bathroom for me to use it. As soon as I got into the bathroom I already had someone knocking needing to go as well. Like I said it’s not a big deal but should be made aware of this if you suffer from any bowel disease.
Overall this is a great place with great food & very affordable. I will definitely...
Read moreWe've been by this restaurant many times in recent weeks & have commented how we'd like to give it a try! I have a weekly medical appointment in Charlton, otherwise it's not a town we visit often...living almost an hour away. Yesterday we decided to go for lunch. It didn't look too busy which I liked, because I do suffer from anxiety. It was around 12:30pm on a Tuesday, which I learned from a waitress isn't usually a very busy day for them. We walked in, noticed that they had seating available up at the counter as well as tables & booths, also a few outside options. The overall feel was very cozy & comfortable. We sat ourselves & the waitress came over after a few minutes to take our order. The menu had plenty of tasty choices, including burgers, sandwiches, & more. I like that they had comfort food like pot roast & chicken parmesan. They also offered specials. Our party of 3 adults ordered chop suey, swedish meatballs & a chili dog, along with stuffed pepper soup. We were all very happy with our meals & overall dining experience. Our waitress was friendly, welcoming & attentive. We were happy to discover a nice little place that's new to us. The prices are very fair also, only costing around $40 for 3 adults to have lunch. Portion sizes were plentiful & we brought home leftovers. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you're ever in the Charlton area. They also serve breakfast! Highlights of dining here include great home cooked food, low prices, quick & courteous service, in a relaxed setting. Great spot for families, friends, couples, or...
Read moreJ&E’s Yankee Diner is pretty much exactly what you imagine when you hear someone suggest breakfast at an American Greasy Spoon Diner. It’s got one fry cook armed with a spatula and a tub of lard. One waitress armed with a fresh pot of coffee and ready to refill that half empty mug on your table. And a couple of booths and bar stools to sit yourself down in. That’s about it. And believe me, you’ll take that coffee refill with open arms because the brew is seriously tasty here, whatever brand it might be. My girlfriend and I stopped here for a quick bite before heading to Treehouse Brewery (which, I imagine, is the culprit for so many tourists coming up to this humble part of Massachusetts in the first place). We split one of each - the Breakfast Club which was a ham and egg sandwich a la Benedict and the diner’s version of a Monte Cristo that featured breakfast sausage, bacon, and eggs sandwiched between not two but THREE slices of French Toast (Texas style, so there was nothing French about ‘em)! We didn’t eat again for a good six hours after that. Service was quick and friendly, the bill was left on the table for whenever we were ready, and prices were more than fair. All in all it was a good start to a great day spent on the northeastern coast, where people tend to drink sugar with their coffee and not the other way around, and starting your day with a generous amount of calories is still the only way to start it. I’d come back up here on my next trip to the brewery, and I’d happily start another day with the diner’s colossal...
