Made a reservation for my family and was told I'd be seated immediately on the phone since I live 5 min away....After arriving the owner who sits at the front door told us there would be a short wait. After 15 min standing in a door way he tried to cram us in the back basically at a table connected to another family's table. Still not annoyed I declined and asked to sit up front since there were 2 small tables empty for quite a while....he told me they were for someone else and that 5 tables payed there check so it wouldn't be long but tried again to seat us in the back room. I expressed I'd rather wait then sit back there but thank you anyway! I then went to the bar to order a lemonaid and two drinks 0-60 for my daughter, wife and myself....he then forced my wife and told my 8 year old daughter to go sit over there ...which was in the back of course. We took an Uber there because my wife and I wanted 2 or 3 drinks with dinner which we have never done until this night. Now there is no cell service in this bar so uber wasn't coming. We sat angry waiting for an Uber but it kept saying 20min because no cell signal on her verison apple or my t-mobil android finally I asked for the restaurants wifi password and 12more min till pick up. Now after an hour and 15 min. Just at the table alone no one person ever approached us. Yes I was stubborn and said nothing because I no longer wanted to give them my service. As we were about to get picked up the owner realized it and apologized but our ride was there we left late for a young child hungry and out for an Uber ride to and from. I read so many bad reviews in the past and have a very large family all around this area who have always had Issues but figured I'd give it another chance. He's reviews are fake and somehow he deleted past reviews don't go the very bad...
Read moreNice old building with charm. Food is fairly good. I got the paddy melt and it was pretty flavorful and the coleslaw and fries were good. The onion rings and mozzerella sticks and chicken tenders were very crispy. My husband got a scallop and pasta dish. He said the scallops were sandy and the pasta was bland but otherwise pretty good. My mule was good and balanced but my husband's old fashioned was really bitter and not well balanced and loaded with small ice cubes so it watered down hast. The service here was very very slow and forgetful. Our group ordered 2 of the appetizer sampler and they brought one. When we asked the waitress she said "oh you ordered 2? I thought you only ordered 1" and then told us it would take too long to make another but if we swapped the wings for another item it would come out faster so we did that. Then the soups and salads came out very disjointed (we had 9 people but they brought out 2 to 3 at a time separated by 5 mins or more). 2 of the soups didnt come out till way after everyone else's were served and we reminded the waitress. The french onion soup was fairly good but nothing to write home about. Then the entrees came out in shifts as well. Normally you expect everyone at the table to be served in short order but this was not the case. In fact one of the entrees was forgotten and it took over 10 mins after everyone else was served to get it after we got someone and told them she never got her entree. They apologized and comped the entree but it was really terrible that everyone had warm food waiting to eat for her entree and then having to start without her cuz it was taking so long. The desserts were good though. Overall food was pretty good but service was an odd experience and not good...
Read moreOn a cold and rainy night in March, my wife and I had an adventure at the historic Chesterfield Inn. Built in 1710 its the oldest continuously running tavern in New Jersey! The village of Recklesstown was developed around the intersection of 3 colonial roads and was named for one of its founders, Joseph Reckless, not because of anyone’s unruly behavior. The Recklesstown Tavern was also a stagecoach stop and a brothel. It was and still is the center of the village but in 1888 Congressman Anthony Bullock changed the town’s name to Chesterfield to avoid criticism. Their slogans say it best, for “300 Years and Counting” the Chesterfield Inn has been providing their patrons with “Fine Foods and Spirits Since 1710.” As soon as we walked in we could tell that this is a popular gathering place for the locals and we loved the inviting atmosphere! If you’re going during peak hours on the weekend, I recommend making a reservation like we did. We started off with the Desperado IPA from Screamin Hill, a local brewery in Cream Ridge. Then we tried the corn beef and cabbage egg rolls. They were a St Pattys Day special, sorry I’m a little behind on cataloging our adventures. For the main course we had the Tavern’s Own Ribeye Sandwich, which was served on garlic bread and it was delicious. The highlights of our adventure were the hometown atmosphere and being immersed in over 300 years of history! If you’re looking for great food, a fun crowd, and some interesting history, head on over to the Chesterfield Inn! 🍺🥩📜🚜 #recklesstown #adventuresinsouthjersey...
