Wellllll! welcome to the neighborhood. I just moved to brodheadsville within the last month and have been busier than a bee with the move. Family wanted something more than fast food between trips or diner fare as much as we like our local diners. It was home cooking we all craved, and well, this was like a kiss on the cheek from grandma by the time we were fished with our meal. The staff is so sweet and so genuine and hard working!!! I could have stayed and talked for another hour about the menu or recipes the way they utilized the kitchen allowing others to use it in days they aren't serving food themselves. The menu excited us all with something to out fancy, gumbo for my oldest smoked chicken dinner for the misses, and I got ribs all to absolute die for. Chicken and ribs were moist and tender cooked perfectly, as well as the gumbo that had such a rich sauce and fresh ingredients I wanted to devour much to the chagrin of my daughter. We also delved into apps and tried the crab/ spinach dip which was so good it didn't last 5 minutes. Which gave my kids a chance to have a few dirty tots yummmmmmm. I even loved the sides the Mac and cheese so fricken good and it's baked the way its supposed to be. The cabbage and corn was like a treat from my youth back to visit. Somehow I managed to find room for the 4 of us to split a peach cobbler and it was delightful. I cannot say enough good things about this amazing eatery and the wonderful couple we met that own and operate Willie Mae's Place along with one of their cooks. An absolute gem nestled in the mountains. We're going back today and this will be a regular spot gonna try the cranberry bourbon meatballs........ drooling. Do not hesitate to give this slightly smaller eatery a shot and your going to leave full and...
Read moreOur first visit here was not great. After hearing so many great things we were excited to try this place. Waitress was nice, the place had about 5 tables occupied. Took a long time to get offered to take our drink order, then was told they were to busy to make the hand crafted drinks. Took a while for us to get our drinks, then ordered an appetizer and our meal. Well appetizer never came out after 20 mins, it was just soup. Then the waitress came back and said they were out of soup. Another 20 mins went by, all the while the lights were flickering on and off(no storm or bad weather), then meal came chicken sandwich was delicious per my kid, meatloaf was mediocre and sauteed shrimp was cold as in like ice cold. Then it took another 15 mins til the waitress came back to even check on things, didn't bother expressing the shrimp was ice cold, because we needed to pick up our other kid, Server then finally came back to collect our check and returned with card. Then as rest of family exited waitress said wait so another 10 mins went by she came out with peach cobbler to go, nice gesture, but we tasted at home and realized why you would give it away , because I would not charge someone for something that was awful. Now I will say that I am a fair person and will try the place again, I believe everyone deserves a second chance and that everyone can truly have a bad day. So I do look forward to trying it again. Other members in our party said they would not return, but I am willing to give it another try! All in all it was 2 1/2 hours at this location...
Read moreWillie Mae’s? More like Willie Mayhem. We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes with a hungry child, only to be told “Oh… your order was never sent to the kitchen.” No apology. No accountability. Just a shrug. We asked to speak with the owner — she straight-up refused. But the second we said we wouldn’t be paying for the sad little appetizers, that’s when the owner stormed out of the kitchen, visibly angry, and got right in our faces, yelling at us in front of other customers. She blamed the server for not putting in the order and told us to leave her restaurant instead of offering a single apology. We were shocked — not just at the lack of professionalism, but at the downright aggressive, hostile behavior. Like ma’am… you messed up, not us. Completely unprofessional, aggressive, and embarrassing. I’ve never been treated with such hostility especially with a child sitting at the table. This place doesn't deserve your time, money, or patience. So we left — and went down the street to a spot called Sauce. They were literally about to close, but when they heard what happened, they kept the kitchen open just for us. The staff treated us like family, immediately brought fries for the kid (without us asking), and made sure we were fed and taken care of. That’s what hospitality looks like. Willie Mae’s? Overhyped and underdelivered. I wouldn’t go back if the...
