The Mill Bar and Grill - A Welcoming Find in Sesser Stepping into The Mill Bar and Grill in Sesser on a recent Saturday, just after 11:15 AM, I confess I almost turned away. The parking lot was entirely empty, leading me to believe they might not even be open yet. However, a quick check of the door confirmed they were indeed welcoming patrons. Upon entering, the dining area was, at that moment, completely empty, allowing us to choose our seating freely. Our server, who was both friendly and efficient, quickly appeared to take our drink orders and provide menus. While she retrieved our beverages, we perused the offerings. She then enthusiastically informed us of the day's special: a Cajun catfish sandwich served with fries. Intrigued, and with a desire for something warm and fresh, we decided to give it a try. Our food arrived in a remarkably timely fashion, a welcome surprise given the quiet atmosphere. Both the catfish and fries were piping hot and tasted distinctly fresh. The flavor was good, though I must confess, the "Cajun" aspect was a bit subtle for my palate. There was a sauce drizzled over the fish, but it didn't impart the robust, spicy kick one typically associates with Cajun seasoning. That being said, the fish itself was well-cooked, and the fries were perfectly crispy. What truly elevated the experience was the service. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, and her friendly demeanor made for a very pleasant interaction. Interestingly, as we were enjoying our meal, other patrons began to arrive, and there was a steady flow of customers coming and going as we prepared to leave. This added a nice touch of local life to the otherwise quiet start. Overall, despite the initial quiet, The Mill Bar and Grill delivered a good dining experience. The food was hot and fresh, and the service was fast and friendly. We left feeling satisfied and will certainly be returning to explore more...
Read moreThis is no reflection on the wait staff because I think they were trying to manage too many people between just a few of them, but we sat and waited for over two hours for food and finally gave up and asked for it to go. The management is doing a horrendous job staffing this place, we were basically warned by the harried wait staff that the kitchen staff is completely inflexible to customer requests and I gather from reviews that the snail’s pace is an ongoing problem on busy nights. If you as a manager are consistently having complaints left online about filling orders in a timely manner with a highly limited and extremely simple menu, then either hire more kitchen staff or take some tables out and start turning people away so that you don’t have two dozen tables all sitting and waiting for food forever. Great building, terrible management. I won’t be back. I’ve had faster, friendlier service and better food at the Custard Stand in town when the line’s been mostly around the block.
EDIT: a friend who was with us left a dissatisfied review on their Facebook after the evening and the admin of their page decided to respond and blame the slow service on COVID precautions. We’re not fooled by that excuse. None of the servers wore masks, neither were there signs for customers to do so when walking through the restaurant before seating, they PACKED the place with no distancing or empty tables indoors, and I didn’t see any extra wiping down of surfaces or door handles in the two hours we were there. Pretty sure they were letting people sit at the bar too. Nobody’s buying that BS; they’re just plain...
Read moreWe arrived at this place at 630 pm on a Saturday. I have worked and managed restaraunts before and have been in the foodservice industry for over a decade. I am a server currently.
When we arrived, there was a wait. No one greeted us, no one ever even spoke to us for almost an hour while we waited. The wait isn't the problem here.
After we were finally sat, (another party had been sat at the same time next to us)we waited for over 15 minutes. Still no greeting, no menus, no drink order.
The table that arrived at the same time as us now has seen a menu and has their round of drinks. A couple walks in and joins them. Before had any sort of greeting, these new arrivals were getting drinks delivered, and the original group was getting their second round.
We flagged down a server when we saw this, and asked for menus. We have been here for over an hour at this point and had still not been taken care of. She returned with the menus and took our drink order. Then she just turned and walked away. No, "I'll be right back with those" or "sorry about your wait"....nothing.
This establishment needs management. They need to find a balance between customers and staff. When there is a wait, you let the guests know, and you make sure they are as comfortable as possible.
As of right now we have been waiting at this place for almost 2 hours and all we have to show for it is...
