Brevin's Downtown Eatery — Restaurant in Churubusco

I called in a carryout order to Brevin’s in Churubusco Indiana for my mother and father. My parents and I have been residents of Churubusco for 46 years. My parents ordered a Chicken Tender Salad, a Full order of Baby Back Rib Dinner with 2 salads as their sides and they also ordered a Large order of Onion Rings. Their bill was $37.74. I made a separate order for a Chicken Tender Entree with a bake potato and a salad, and a Fried Fish Entree with a bake potato and salad. My bill was $26.73. I had a credit for $7.00 for the last time they messed up my food so I used that credit towards my meal of $26.73 which I ended up paying $19.73. Of course I was disappointed again!!!! My Chicken Tenders were burnt to a crisp!!! My mother’s Ribs tasted old and were ice cold the Onions Rings were nasty 🤢 and soggy. Brevin’s changed their onion rings they are store bought now!!! What a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!! When I called to complain the lady that answered the phone said she would refund our money for the Burnt Chicken Tender Meal and my mother’s Onion Rings not her Rib Dinner. So I was unable to go back the same evening so I decided to call her back to ask her if I could come back the next day and she said as long as you bring the Chicken Tenders and Onion Rings back. At that time I told her I threw the Chicken Tenders in the trash. She expected me to dig in the trash to bring them back to get my refund. That’s okay I told her to keep the money and I will never go back to Brevins ever again!!!! I refuse to dig through the trash. I should have took the trash up to her and had her go through my trash to get those BURNT TO A CRISP Chicken Tenders they charged me for!!! I have been a customer of Brevin’s ever since they opened their doors. Such a disappointment!!!!! I should have already knew the food was going to be bad since the last few times I ordered food there it wasn’t good and I had a problem!!!! Oh well Brevin’s lost several paying customers!!!!!

I want to Thank the Owner of Brevin’s Restaurant in Churubusco Indiana for responding back so quickly to my complaint. In regards to my bad experience last night I have had several bad experiences with my family before this that we have over looked because being in the restaurant business we understand that things happen and people mistakes. After several bad experiences we experienced dining in and with carryouts I finally felt you should know and I wanted to bring it to your attention. I have also held several parties at your restaurant recently I just had my grandmother’s 81st birthday there in April 2021 and we had 19 people and it was so wonderful!!! The food and service was great!! Since then I have had several bad experiences. Nobody wants to pay for food that’s not edible. I didn’t want to make a bad review I just wanted you to know. I will continue to support Brevin’s as long as things change.

Wow! What a great hidden gem. I heard of this place from a friend and my mom and I decided to try it today. From the outside this place doesn't look like anything special. Parking is a bit of a challenge but there are some nearby stores that offer additional parking. Upon entering the restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised to find a delightful beautiful decorated dining room. The neutral colors and etched glass make this eatery an welcoming place. It took a couple of minutes for a hostess to see us, but she was very friendly and took us to a nice table and took our drink orders. Our waitress followed promptly after to check on us and provided us with some extra time to review the menu. All of the menu items seemed to be great choices. We placed our order and shortly after our appetizer was brought out. We ordered cheese curds. The portion was HUGE. It could have easily been an appetizer for 6-8 people. The curds were the proper temperature and tasted buttery and delicious. The ranch provided was a little runny, but had good flavor. A few minutes later my salad arrived. I know that salad is pretty standard wherever you go (for the most part) but I was satisfied that it was fresh and crisp as you'd want a salad to be. Our entrees arrived and our eyes nearly popped out of our heads. Once again the portions were huge. I ordered the fish, ribs and potato wedges. The fish was great; however I would have preferred just a little less breading. The tartar sauce provided was sweet and delicious. I would have preferred a bit more relish in the tartar, but the flavor was still great. The bbq ribs were outstanding. The menu listed the portion to be 1/3 a rack. There were at least 6 bones, which I've seen served as half a rack at other places. The flavor was perfect. Just the right amount of sticky bbq to still taste the great meat flavor. The potato wedges were good as well. Again the portion was huge. They were served on a large platter plate by themselves. I enjoyed how they were served with sour cream. The flavor was good. We're excited to go back and try the other menu items. Overall our experience was excellent. Great food and outstanding service. Our waitress never let our drinks get to the bottom and promptly removed dirty dishes from the table. This is...

Absolutely unacceptable experience.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but after what I witnessed at Brevin’s, I can’t stay silent. My family and I went out for a nice meal, and from the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was completely unprofessional.

Our server clearly had no interest in doing their job. We never got her name but she was an older woman with dark black hair. Instead of checking on tables, they were hanging around the counter gossiping loudly with coworkers. I was APPALLED to overhear them making fun of other customers—yes, actual paying guests—laughing about them and rolling their eyes (not to mention on the way to the bathroom I overheard them discussing how they wanted a child to “shut up”.) Completely disrespectful.

Not only that, but I also heard our server talking down to other staff in a rude, condescending tone. It was uncomfortable and honestly embarrassing for the entire place. I understand that we all have bad days but one of my girlfriends also said she had a similar experience at Brevin’s.

Needless to say, the service we received was slow and careless. It was obvious we were not a priority. We felt completely ignored and disrespected.
