Charlotte Tavern — Restaurant in City of Rochester

HOLY MOTHER OF... I can't even count the amount of times that I drove by this place and thought "meh"... Never going in to check it out.

Boy do I ever regret thinking like that. Me and a couple of buds decided to finally pull the trigger and give this place a visit. I had a burger with coleslaw on the side, a handful of buffalo wings and most of a medium pepperoni pizza (yes, I can eat a lot.)

Definitely very good all across the board! To note:

The pizza had a real nice genuine tamotoe-y flavor in the sauce, the consistency on the dough couldn't be better, nice greasy flavorful cup and char style pepperoni, and that nice somewhat oily, good chrunch on the outside with a tender inside type of crust. Brick oven!

Burger was juicy and THICK (that was a half pound patty? I wonder what their full pound patties look like!) Cooked just the way I asked. The typical toppings of ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomatoe and onion are hard to get wrong at any place, but I have to say that the persihable toppings here seemed quite fresh!

The wings were light on the sauce, but despite that, the sauce still presented a strong tangy buffalo flavor. The wings were cooked just right too, in my opinion.

Coleslaw.... Well, nothing special, I thought it was alright (hey, everything can't be perfect all at once.)

Atmosphere has a nice and cozy feel to it as well, with some Rochester history on the walls and such. It's bigger on the inside than you might think, ceiling isn't low or anything.

I'm gonna have to go with a five starer here, I never would have...

We went there tonight at 5:30pm, lots of open tables, we were told the wait was like a half hours so we put our name in. I was with my husband, 5 year old son, and 3 year old daughter. I asked the host how much longer and she looked surprised, she told me 30 min to an hour. I almost lost it, got my kids and began to walk out the door when she said she would seat us right now. She explained to me how hard it was to give a wait time, I expressed that it is not that hard as I have run multiple restaurants. Once we sat, around 6:10pm, we ordered right away. Our server was kind but, very distracted with her family there. The host offered to get us more bread and never came back. We we're there for an hour and a half and only had a roll. Finally our food, calamari, 2 fish fries, spaghetti, and chicken fingers came out a little after 7 and it wasn't that great. Our server never checked on us, once we had the check it took forever to get a box and have our card run. We should have left before we sat. I have been here in the past and had good experiences. I am not sure if there was a change in management, cooks, or what but, this was terrible from the beginning to the end. At this point, we will...

Went on date night for a fish fry tonite. Server Bella starts off telling us she will have to seat us in the back like that was a bad thing or a time out. Seats were horrible, moving everytime the person behind me moved. Husband ordered fishfry which was nothing but grease. I ordered the Angus Roast with mixed veggies. Thinking something similar to a pot roast, and literally was served a huge portion of hard, raw diced peas and carrots. Told Bella about the veggies and she apologized and walked away. Not even 5 minutes into receiving our entrees she asks if we want to-go containers. I said No. Mind you my plate has not been touched. Never bothered to ask if I would like something else or if the food was ok. Then 3 minutes after that she brings the check to the table. It felt like we were being rushed out of there and werent even full like the letter on the menu from the owners states they want you to leave happy and fat. I edited this review which was positive when we visited 7 yrs ago. Very sad that I left hungry, still paid $26 for something I did not eat. If Bella cannot pick up on customer satisfaction something is wrong. I will not go here again and...
