I honestly don’t know where to start on how bad the food and service was last night. I brought my girlfriend out for her 45th birthday at Mortons a place that she chose to go for her birthday. It started with the service. The greed at the host stand was great, but once we sat down is where it turned into one of the worst experiences at any restaurant we’ve ever had our server came over and she began with taking her drink water. Once she came back with our waters not our drinks. She asked if we wanted to put in any appetizers and we did. We informed her that we were ready to order if she’d like to take the whole order and she proceeded to take. Our complete order. After that, she left and we noticed about 15 minutes later tables that sat after us not only had their orders taken, but had their drinks already served at the table. Our appetizers were served. Still we finally flagged down another server from a different table and asked is there anyway we can get our drinks since we’ve been here for now almost a half an hour, we ate our appetizers with no drinks. still my partner was positive with it being her 45th birthday. I didn’t want to say anything so we just laughed it off hoping the dinner would get better. We received our drinks and two minutes later. Our dinner already came. Her dinner was overcooked. Shocking since this is a steakhouse and mine was undercooked my partner choked it up as saying, maybe they confused the way we wonder steaks maybe the server wrote it down wrong. She waited to our server came back to ask if everything was OK and my partner proceeded to tell her her steak was overcooked they charge for each additional side my partner ordered sauce for her steak our server took her steak and had it cooked. In the meantime, she proceeded to eat the potato au gratin in the garlic green beans while waiting for her steak to be cooked properly on her second of the green beans she pulled out a stem out of her mouth as she was choking on it and we have tons of pictures of this was beyond disgusting I asked her if she was OK and she politely said yes, but she didn’t want to eat anymore. She was totally mortified. she calmly said I just wanna leave and that she’s sorry that she picked this restaurant to go for her birthday she told the server what she found in her meal. The server said she’d bring over the manager now or State comes back out, which was cooked properly but by now we honestly just wanna leave. The manager took $55 off the bill and we asked to wrap up our food what tops the cake is that the server asked us what we would like for dessert we ordered two crème brûlée in a coffee as we’re waiting for a dessert. We noticed the table right across from us had a birthday. They came out with a birthday candle, and of course, the family saying to her our server brought out our crème brûlée and never even put a candle in it, I was in shock as we watch the table next to us served from the beginning to end with prompt care and great service on our hand, horrible horrible service and just all around bad meal I mention to the server it’s her birthday. Can we at least have a candle and she commented oh my God I’m sorry I forgot the candle. Let me take this back and she walked the dessert away . What’s even more shocking the table next to us with the birthday got an additional dessert with a candle on it. On top of everything else. I feel like we were treated extremely poor were not whatsoever. We did not Whatsoever, but it feels like they did not all about how bad the experience was once we got home and we looked at our dinners that were wrapped items that we purchased that were still on the bill weren’t even in our bag of leftover food for steak that they messed up for my partners birthday. dinner was it even in the bag and we paid additional money for that, beyond green beans weren’t wrapped up at least they made a fresh batch and made sure that something disgusting like that would never been somebody’s dish ever again, but they did not add that either so we paid for food that we never...
Read moreThe food was excellent, and the ambiance was very good, but unfortunately, the service really was not up to par for a restaurant at this level/price. The hostesses were very nice, and we were seated right on time. Tables were well spaced out, seating was very comfortable, and noise level was moderate. the only nit was the lighting level; it was a bit dark even for Morton's, which for whatever reason takes the dark steakhouse thing to an extreme. The server came over in a reasonable amount of time and asked about water & drinks. We asked about specials, she referred to a “lent special” that was a lobster Bolognese pasta. It was a Saturday, not a Friday, so the meat/lent thing didn’t apply. I assumed since bolognese is a meat sauce, the lobster would be substituted for beef, but this was just an assumption as it was never explained. Our drinks came out in a timely fashion. We ordered the lump crabmeat cocktail and the shrimp calabrese for appetizers. Both were excellent. The server checked on the apps, brought another round, and then did not see her again for over thirty minutes. Then she came over and apologized about the delay in getting the food, vaguely blaming the kitchen for something. I didn’t think it was that slow; we let her know it was fine, but it seemed odd as other tables were getting food fine. While she was there, my wife mentioned to our server that since it was going to be a while longer, she would excuse herself to use the ladies room and asked for directions. My wife left when the server walked away, and not more than a minute later, our server brought the food. Not sure why she would come to the table after not stopping by for close to 40 minutes with the kitchen excuse and not at least check with the kitchen first. Then, knowing my wife had excused herself (if you speed walked to the bathroom and didn’t wash your hands after it would take ten minutes minimum to return), why rush the food out? At least leave it under a heat lamp or something. We had a ribeye, a filet, and gouda and bacon potatoes. Even after sitting on the table for almost 15 minutes awaiting my wife’s return, both the steaks (slightly overcooked due to the wait, most likely) and side were all very good. The odd/poor service continued. My wife sat back down, and we each had our first bite in our mouth when the server reappeared, no mention of the food sitting there getting cold. she asked how it was and then started explaining the chocolate desert that takes a half hour to prepare, no mention of other deserts. Normally, at other Morton’s we have been to this is either done in between courses or is done on an additional check-in after the check on the entrees, and the other deserts are also described in either scenario. As mentioned, she had plenty of time to do this between courses but chose not to do so. I asked her for a minute to think about it and she did not come back for 20-25 minutes, at this point we were done with our entire meal. I guess she finally sensed something was amiss, and we weren’t thrilled as she asked if everything was alright in a way that seemed to me, she knew it wasn’t. My wife loves the chocolate cake, and I can’t think of a time we have ever been to Morton’s that we didn’t get it, but I guess there is a first for everything. I was a bit frustrated by now, so I asked for the check, and we left. I understand people have off nights and things happen but at this price point (it was 325-330 with tip for 2 apps, 2 steaks, 1 side, 2 glasses of wine & 2 iced teas) making so many basic mistakes like the ones described above are unacceptable. If she was running around like crazy, I certainly would have been more understanding, but this did not seem to be the case. In conclusion, it has really good food and a nice ambiance, but the service is unacceptably poor for this price point. We live in Saratoga and are very lucky there are so many options that pair great food with great service, so I can’t imagine we will...
Read moreWe celebrated my Birthday this past weekend at Morton's -- the Hostess was friendly and recognized my Birthday that was identified in our reservation. Our table was decorated with confetti and there was also a placard recognizing that it was my Birthday.
5 Stars for our server Cat. She was professional, courteous, and beyond friendly. She recognized my Birthday and provided us with outstanding service throughout our meal. Kudos to Cat for being a great ambassador for Morton's.
5 Stars for our food/meal. The menu options were vast and flexible. The timing of the food service was excellent. The presentation was exceptional. The food was prepared to our to wishes, and all courses were delicious.
1 Star for the wine list/presentation -- which is why we gave an overall 4 Star rating. This is the third time that we have ordered a bottle of wine and the wine ordered was out of stock -- a note of point, we are ordering some very nice wines. When we were informed by the Manager/Sommelier that our chosen wine was not available we were presented with the Wine List and asked to choose another selection. We ended up selecting a more expensive wine -- the Manager/Sommelier never offered any relief on price due to our original wine choice being out of stock. When we mentioned this to our server ( again, kudos to Cat for her professionalism and customer service skills in dealing with this issue ) she said she would ask the Manager, and later told us that they were going to honor the price on the original bottle of wine. When we received our bill we were charged the price of the replacement wine -- we were not going to make a big deal over $20, but it put a small amount of tarnish on our experience. What should have happened was the Manager/Sommelier should have represented the Wine List and provided us with 2 or 3 similar choices to our original wine, and offered to honor the original price. After having spent my professional career working for a company that lived by the philosophy's of Lean Six Sigma, this is a lesson in Continual Improvement. With this being the third time this has happened to us, we can only imagine that the same is happening to others. Wine inventory management should be looked at and improved, and the procedure/policy of how the customer is informed and treated in this scenario should also be updated.
We love Morton's and will be back, but the above Wine List experience has definitely negatively impacted a number of our past dining...
