Haven't been there for a while but wanted to give it another shot. They made some renovations. You still get that old Italian atmosphere inside. We started off excited end up disappointed. Food was OK ; good not great. Price for quality and quantity was expensive. I don't mind paying a high price but not for a salad that is a tiny layer of green leafs. I thought I was being punked. One olive, one small tomato. I thought okay maybe the meal is going to be so good they didn't want us to fill up on salad.(better off with no salad than three bites) the meal came I got the Haddock Alaska. Broiled fish in cream sauce with shrimp and scallops. It was a good taste but one shrimp and one scallop only. I understand cutting back or charging more but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a minimal amount of three scallops and three shrimp. My drink which was iced tea sweetened because they didn't have unsweetened was good except was not free refills and 80% full of ice. I had maybe 1 to 2 inches of $3 tea in an 8 inch glass. 🤔. My wifes food was ok but not great. When I got the bill I ended up paying with no alcoholic drinks for two $120 with tip. I expected $60. Then realized they nickled and dimed us. The meals were 25 each. We did get an appetizer but was charged 18 for an appetizer I expected at most 12. We each got two non alcoholic drinks $12. My wife asked for parmesan and oil with the bread they brought out and they charged us like $3. For it. I don't mind paying higher prices when fully disclosed. I'd rather somone tell me 50 a plate all in. But the hidden fees were disappointing. That's why I won't ever return and my readers will never go. 92 plus tax and tip around 120. For that price I could have ate at the casino or newer restaurant in the area that would never be...
Read moreYou would think that good Italian food would be easy for find around here, but this is not always the case! Ambassador, however, really hit the spot for us. We ended up here on accident, but were SO glad we did. The atmosphere is quite nice, relaxing and romantic. The wait staff are wonderful, (the young man who was taking his role of unofficial host was a sweetheart as well,) and it's just a pleasant dining experience all around. I had a glass of cabernet for $9. It was worth it- excellent wine, and plenty of it. No regrets there! For an appetizer, we got the Ambassador Greens. It's Utica. You have to try the greens and the riggies, right? Well, these were some of the best we've had. I love Utica greens, and my partner does not, but these? he had almost the entire plate by himself! I got to taste the steak park of his filet riggies, which he very much enjoyed. I got the haddock Alaska. Now, I'm very particular with my seafood. My first preference for it is raw, but if I'm going to have it cooked, it had best not be overcooked. I'm pleased to say that my dish was cooked well- still tender and juicy! Be warned- it only comes with one shrimp and two small scallops, but they're tasty. The fish filet was a good size, and cooked properly. The SAUCE, though! I've been disappointed with a lot of cream sauces here in CNY, but they REALLY did this sherry-cream sauce justice. It's delightful. Balanced, and not at all bland. We...
Read moreI went with a group. The first time I went with my Wife, we left without eat. But, since this group was going I figured I would try it. I have a culinary arts degree, so I tend to be picky. Thelace is nice, staff was great, but the food was OK. I had Veal Saltibocca, the veal was fine, the breading was entirely too heavy. The sauce was very dark, and very acidic, The Saltibocca I have had normally is not tomato based, this was. But, different places make stuff differently. It just wasn't worth the rather high price. I would have probably ordered an appetizer, however, they cost as much as the entrees in many cases. The service was good, they accommodated individual checks, and the Owner made sure everything was good. I ordered, a Gin and Tonic, wound up getting a Segrams and ginger, because I asked if the had Segrams Gin. Finally the Bartender came over and figured out the problem. I wound up with Beefeaters. Many said their food was good, the woman next to me complained to me about the heavy breading on her fish as she peeled it off. I won't be going back, too many outstanding, and frankly less expensive places with...
