I had the Cuban and thought it was a pretty good example. Pasta salad was good except my service g had more broccoli and cauliflower than I would have preferred. Son had a burger and thought it was good. His fries while not exceptional, were good and thick enough to be able to retain their heat for at least part of the meal. Next time I'd probably get the fries instead of the pasta salad. Wife the Philly and commented that it seemed like over cooked steak-ums. So that's a much less than a ringing endorsement. Service was reasonably fast and friendly. House made chips I generally find don't live up to their potential, and these were no exception to that rule. But they were still nice to munch on before the meals came out. Jukeboxes work, but the four songs we played all came out very quiet compared to the regular background music they had on, so that was a bit of a disappointment. I'd stop again if in the area at meal time but wouldn't go out of my way to eat here vs trying someplace else.

The environment was exactly what I wanted when I went to this diner. It was just that, a diner that reminds one of a nostalgic time. We received some of the best customer service here and largely due to such a great waiter. He was phenomenal and professional. The food was great for me and not so good for my wife. My black and blue burger was cooked to perfection and they added an over easy egg for me at no extra charge. (I didn’t want the onions and lettuce hence it looking basic.) It was delicious! The fries needed some salt but other than that they were very good. The milkshake I got on my way out was one of the best vanilla milkshakes I have had in a long time. My wife’s chicken pesto wrap looked really good but the red peppers didn’t mesh well with it. Even though her wrap wasn’t awesome - the atmosphere and service warranted a five star review.

Very cool, 50's vibe restaurant, there's even a 57 Chevy sitting out front. Is ample parking right off the interstate exit. Skip the chain restaurant right across the street this place was fantastic! I set at the bar and within seconds Paula arrived with menu and coffee in hand. My coffee cup was never empty during the whole meal. I ordered the steak and eggs with home fries and toast. I ordered the steak medium rare but it came well done not that big a deal it was still very tasty. My only complaint is that it was a New York strip I would have much rather had a thin cut breakfast Rib Eye. Bottom line, food was excellent, the vibe was excellent and Paula was excellent. I'm just sad that I'm just discovering this place, 3 weeks in to a 4 week trip.

Where to begin. The initial appearance was nice but we should have walked out the moment we walked in. When we were seated, two girls came in after us and their order was taken first because they were friends of the waitress. I know this because they were hugging her. My wife ordered the fish tacos. When it came, there was about 1 tablespoon of fish on each taco and about 1 cup of lettuce on each one. She could barely find the fish never mind taste it. Apparently they're not concerned about they're reviews because when I asked the waitress about the amount of fish, I was told that it's the way they do it. They said they cut a piece of fish in half then take one of the halves and divide it between the two tacos. It must have been a pumpkin seed fish size. I can't imagine if it was in a sandwich. It's the same price. It should be the same amount of fish. She had to take the fish out of one and put it in the other just to make one taco which she could still barely taste. I wouldn't waste your time or money. Along the lines of being concern about reviews, I noticed the owner only responds to the good reviews and not the bad. No one even tried to apologize or rectify the situation for customer satisfaction while we were there. I guess next time we'll be going to Bob Evans. We should have tried that in the...

Last week we went to Shorty's for the last time. We have stopped by several times over the last few years, usually for breakfast, and the food was never good; indeed, one chicken salad made us sick, but after our last experience despite the fact that it is practically on the highway--which is the reason why we were going there when traveling, nothing justifies suffering through their food and (lack of) service. Shorty's has a crowd of regulars who feel at home there, which is great, but when we're home we cook any and everything better! Not being regulars, our coffee took almost ten minutes to arrive, two eggs scrambled came out looking like an omelet and pancakes came out dry and burned, but the final straw was that, starting when they were ordered, we asked for butter for the pancakes. None came with them, but the server promised to get some; however, then someone dropped off packets of an oil-based spread, not butter! When the waitress finally returned (only to give us the check) and this was pointed out, they replied that they knew we'd asked for butter and knew that we had only been given a vegetable-oil spread instead, and what of it, did we now still want BUTTER!!!??? Indeed, we did not. We paid our check and won't return. Be warned folks, unless you live there, life's too short to eat at...

We used to make a stop at this diner every Saturday night on our way home from the Thousand Islands. Back then it was Chappy's Diner, with a retro look, under different management, and they had later hours on the weekend. We always had a good meal at Chappy's. On a recent stay in the Thousand Islands area in early July, we decided to stop at Shorty's Place for lunch one day. We were seated quickly and given menus. Our server came back in approximately 10 minutes and took our orders. My partner ordered the Smothered Chicken dinner and a garden salad. I ordered the Angus Burger cooked medium, an order of crispy French fries, and a thick chocolate shake. Our food was served approximately 15 minutes later. Both of our meals were served very hot and offered a large serving of food. Everything was cooked perfectly and delicious. And the chocolate shake I ordered was extremely thick and delicious, just the way I like it. Our server was outstanding and very friendly. Honestly, we had no complaints whatsoever with our food or the service during this visit. Our total bill for food and beverages came to just under $27. We miss the later hours on the weekend but, I have recommended this diner in the past and, based on our recent experience, will continue to...
