Where to begin. The initial appearance was nice but we should have walked out the moment we walked in. When we were seated, two girls came in after us and their order was taken first because they were friends of the waitress. I know this because they were hugging her. My wife ordered the fish tacos. When it came, there was about 1 tablespoon of fish on each taco and about 1 cup of lettuce on each one. She could barely find the fish never mind taste it. Apparently they're not concerned about they're reviews because when I asked the waitress about the amount of fish, I was told that it's the way they do it. They said they cut a piece of fish in half then take one of the halves and divide it between the two tacos. It must have been a pumpkin seed fish size. I can't imagine if it was in a sandwich. It's the same price. It should be the same amount of fish. She had to take the fish out of one and put it in the other just to make one taco which she could still barely taste. I wouldn't waste your time or money. Along the lines of being concern about reviews, I noticed the owner only responds to the good reviews and not the bad. No one even tried to apologize or rectify the situation for customer satisfaction while we were there. I guess next time we'll be going to Bob Evans. We should have tried that in the...
Read moreLast week we went to Shorty's for the last time. We have stopped by several times over the last few years, usually for breakfast, and the food was never good; indeed, one chicken salad made us sick, but after our last experience despite the fact that it is practically on the highway--which is the reason why we were going there when traveling, nothing justifies suffering through their food and (lack of) service. Shorty's has a crowd of regulars who feel at home there, which is great, but when we're home we cook any and everything better! Not being regulars, our coffee took almost ten minutes to arrive, two eggs scrambled came out looking like an omelet and pancakes came out dry and burned, but the final straw was that, starting when they were ordered, we asked for butter for the pancakes. None came with them, but the server promised to get some; however, then someone dropped off packets of an oil-based spread, not butter! When the waitress finally returned (only to give us the check) and this was pointed out, they replied that they knew we'd asked for butter and knew that we had only been given a vegetable-oil spread instead, and what of it, did we now still want BUTTER!!!??? Indeed, we did not. We paid our check and won't return. Be warned folks, unless you live there, life's too short to eat at...
Read moreWe used to make a stop at this diner every Saturday night on our way home from the Thousand Islands. Back then it was Chappy's Diner, with a retro look, under different management, and they had later hours on the weekend. We always had a good meal at Chappy's. On a recent stay in the Thousand Islands area in early July, we decided to stop at Shorty's Place for lunch one day. We were seated quickly and given menus. Our server came back in approximately 10 minutes and took our orders. My partner ordered the Smothered Chicken dinner and a garden salad. I ordered the Angus Burger cooked medium, an order of crispy French fries, and a thick chocolate shake. Our food was served approximately 15 minutes later. Both of our meals were served very hot and offered a large serving of food. Everything was cooked perfectly and delicious. And the chocolate shake I ordered was extremely thick and delicious, just the way I like it. Our server was outstanding and very friendly. Honestly, we had no complaints whatsoever with our food or the service during this visit. Our total bill for food and beverages came to just under $27. We miss the later hours on the weekend but, I have recommended this diner in the past and, based on our recent experience, will continue to...
