10/6/23 7.15-8.15pm MANAGER, PLEASE! The blonde waitress working at the restaurant abruptly and rudely took the extra chair at my table without asking me. When I asked her why she took the chair without asking, instead of apologizing, she responded rudely, 'I can bring another one.' I was just waiting for my partner. I was coming from the North, and I don't want to attribute the hospitality of this beautiful restaurant adorned with the warmth and flavors of the South to the entire South. Yet, I pushed myself really hard just to be able to give a tip for my waitress, acknowledging her unique effort. Unfortunately, the blonde waitress prevented me from paying a tip to my own waitress by coming to the register with me. Normally, the other waitress was handling the register. I really didn't understand what was wrong with her. Maybe a lack of hospitality and patience for customers.

I'm in town on business, and I was seduced by reviews of handmade chicken fried steak. I could hear the cook pounding the meat in back. I am delighted to say the dish did not disappoint! Wow. Wow. Wow. You know how you know? Check the picture of the bottom of that steak..crunchy. I enjoyed the green beans, which were well seasoned, and the homemade mashed potatoes were tasty with a good consistency. Even the side salad was good with homemade ranch dressing. Simple, honest homemade food. The service is also phenomenal. My Texas-born waitress was professional, gracious, and friendly. She was also efficient and anticipated as well. The environment is neat with a lot of things to look at. The place looks very put together, but in a rustic and comfortable way. This place is a winner. For sure! UPDATE: I came back for lunch, and it was another 5 star experience!

We have dined here twice on trips to Colorado. There are not a lot of options in Clayton after 8pm and this place gets a small rush around then. The interior offers a clean, stylish, rustic vibe with a TV or two. The patio has cool signs and and a retro RV camper built into the decor (I want that camper!!). Menu is pretty solid with burgers, some Tex Mex, and country cooking. My burger was nicely sized and my girlfriend's Philly cheese steak came with a host of veggies like squash that was a pleasant surprise. Our friends Cobb salad was solid too. Staff is super friendly and gives you a warm welcome. Only deduction is for the fries and salsa. Don't sub the fries in place of chips for your burger...it's those squishy kind that feel like they soaked too much oil. Salsa needs less heat and more cilantro!! Adjust those guys and we'll try it again next year:)

Always great food and love that they deliver. That helps on those evenings when we are busy remodeling or working and get really dirty and do not feel like getting presentable to go grab our grub! Especially if the work isn't finished, and we will be getting dirty again before calling it a day. They stay open reasonably late compared with the rest of the options available in our small community. That would be my only suggestion, staying open until ten on the weekends may really pay off. I can't tell you how many evenings when time has gotten away from us, we can get too rapped up in a project or job to order our dinner in time, although, I have no doubt they would accommodate our late night order, I try not to call in within the hour before closing time. The staff has always been extremely helpful and professional. I have always enjoyed their food, my personal favorite has to be the chicken fry steak dinner, best in town! Their tex/mex food is always good as well, and they have good daily specials. If you have never eaten at the 87,or it's been a while, I totally recommend them,...

The servers are friendly. So, they have that going for them... but the food, it's mediocre at best and it's definitely over priced for the portion size. We ordered a chicken fried steak meal and two catfish meals. The meals were $14.99 each, which would have been acceptable if the entire meal didn't come out on a salad plate (literally). The catfish meal came with 1 piece of fish, a small side of fries and a small scoop of coleslaw (I love coleslaw and I only had one bite, it was that bad). The catfish was overcooked and was bland. The chicken fried steak meal was the size of a frozen patty, with a cafeteria scoop of mashed potatoes and green beans. The only positive about that meal is, thankfully, the gravy was decent and the steak was tender. However, it didn't have much flavor either. We paid a total of $50 (with tip) for 2 pieces of catfish and a chicken fried that fit in the palm of your hand. 10/10 does not recommend stopping if you're looking for a place to have a hearty and tasty meal to fill you up...

My family and I stopped at the 87 Restaurant on our way through New Mexico. It's situated on the site of an old fort along the Santa Fe trail and is decorated in an appropriately rustic fashion. We ordered a variety... the 87 Burger, Tuscan Chicken Sandwich, the Catfish Nuggets, and a piece of Chocolate Cream Pie. Everything was delicious!! The service was quick and very friendly, but the food really was the star of the show. Portion sizes were generous and the food well seasoned. The fries are hand cut, the catfish was tender & perfectly cooked- not muddy at all. My nephew didn't leave a single crumb of the Tuscan Chicken Sandwich. We ordered a slice of pie to share and it was absolutely delectable. Homemade pie crust, and a silky but not overly rich filing. It was dense but not heavy and reminded me of a great french silk pie. I could go on and on but you need to taste for yourself! Stop in when...
