HOLE IN THE WALL; NOT TO BE MISSED
Order: House Special Egg Foo Young, House Special Lo Mein, General Tso’s Chicken, Chicken Curry
Everything is fresh, fully flavored, fairly priced.
Egg Foo Young patties (9/10) were super fresh and extremely savory, but with a few too many peas. The gravy (7/10) is also fresh, which creates an issue, it tastes better once it’s had time to meld together. The gravy had the most mild flavor of fresh flour, where I’d normal expect a more profound beef flavor.
House Special Lo Mein (11/10) was excellent. All ingredients fresh beyond belief. Balanced and delicious sauce, plenty of incorporated smoke/stir fry flavor, HAND CUT NOODLES. Never had that before at a smaller Chinese American restaurant. Perfect texture and size, not gummy or anything. They need to advertise this fact.
General Tso’s Chicken was perfectly flavored. I also picked up the occasional note of ginger, which was delightful. Can’t really find any place that uses strong enough garlic/ginger paste/spice ordinarily.
Chicken Curry was awesome. Curry dishes come down to the quality and kind and their spice blend is phenomenal, mildly spicy but in a way that lends itself to the other spices.
I’ve been to a few Chinese American places and this is one of my favorites in the area, the closest I’ve come to NYC recipes, and in some cases even better. I will definitely be back to try Soups, Dumplings and certainly the Singapore...
Read moreaweful place!!! this place seems incapable of making special orders so it would seem that its made elsewhere, frozen then warmed up here. much like what you might get from your freezer section at walmart. i drive all over the country and most every real kitchens will add extra meat and or veggys to a dish, of course there is an up charge that i dont mind. not this place. her cartoony screams of No no we no do was like a bad joke on a tv sitcom but she was serious. i like to support small local eaterys and share my experiences. if this place, Happy Family, had compitition in area it would surely go...
Read moreIts exactly what you would expect for this area. Can they do better? Im sure they could but they sell that typical reheated in the wok crap you find in every mall , you can buy 20lb of rice for a few bucks yet all these type places want top dollar for a cup of rice with maybe a qauter of pork rib and lil bit of various veggies, it pisses me off when companies or people put profits before people, $ before quality, there are still a few pioneers left out there who still take pride in their work , not this place but hey you in the mountains what...
