Not sure exactly how long this place has been called Emerson's on the Grill, but the building was a restaurant back when I lived in "The Clem" during the early 2000's & I never thought to give it a second look then. I have to say, I'm SO glad I read about it online a few months ago, because it's definitely a hidden gem of a restaurant! They serve breakfast, lunch & a few dinner items, but they're only open until 3pm. It's not much to look at from the outside, which is deceiving, but inside is a clean & tidy little dining establishment. Their menu isn't huge, which isn't a deal breaker, because honestly, I'd rather see a smaller menu knowing the food is fresh as opposed to a ginormous menu with all sorts of options, now knowing how often the turn over is. My friend & I each had salads, which were HUGE & absolutely fantastic! Everything was prepped to order & presented nicely. I had the Maurice salad, which included four tiny sweet gherkins (YUM!), a hard boiled egg, TONS of delicious julienned swiss, ham & turkey on a bed of shredded iceberg lettuce with TWO containers of delicious homemade Maurice salad dressing. My friend had their crispy chicken salad, which they accomodated her request of replacing the crispy chicken with grilled chicken that was tender, along with a fresh greens blend, tomatoes & cucumbers all with a homemade Ranch dressing. As far as prices, extremely reasonably priced for what you get. I also had a cup of their piping hot chicken noodle soup (I forgot to ask if it was homemade, but it sure tasted like it was!) which was delicious. Our server was very friendly & professional also. I heard they're known for their breakfast.......can't wait to try that...
Read moreThis place is the definition of a greasy spoon joint. It's literally one cook and one waitress. The lady is friendly but if there's a crowd she tries her best to keep up. The place is aged inside and out and needs a thorough deep cleaning! The food was decent and the prices are reasonable. It has small booths and a few tables and bar stools and that's about it. It's a very old building so it has that old charm but the inside definitely needs cleaning and an update. I will go back to try other items. I had the barbecue cheeseburger and it was pretty good. Other people on the group have the quesadilla, the club, and the Slim Jim and all said it was good. Since there was a crowd the service to receive the food took a while but that's what you should expect with only two people working there. Worth checking out a small...
Read moreI'm going to be honest. The food is actually pretty good, a bit greasy but good nonetheless. That being said, I'm always a big supporter of small local business. Especially those who source from local vendors. In spite of this, I could not overcome their uncleanliness. I don't think it's a stretch to say that they violate most health codes, including but not limited to: cross-contamination, failure to wash their hands, handling food and cash, coughing in the direction of the food, and not cleaning their kitchen equipment. Unfortunately, this is no exaggeration. This observation can be clearly made by a simple glance inside the kitchen. I think this place could really shine if they put the time in to really clean everyday and practice hygienic...
