Let me start off by saying this review does not reflect the food itself. The pioneer restaurant used to be a great place to go eat. They still have good food as far as I know and their prices are reasonable; what sucked when we went was the service. When we arrived we sat down at a booth that needed the table wiped (it was the last place open) and we waited for 20 minutes without our waitress even wiping the table down from the previous customer. 20 minutes to wait for a table to be wiped and to get a drink order is insane no matter how busy the establishment is. We left without even being noticed we got no drinks and no food. I was especially upset considering I was hungry and ready to eat not to mention being 37 weeks pregnant might have added to the disappointment in not getting even a drink. We won't be back anytime soon but hopefully everyone else has a better experience. I wouldn't recommend the trip if you're not right there. If you've got an hour to wait for a drink and possibly another hour to wait for food...
Read moreI have known the Pioneerâs hospitality for many, many years. Growing up in Haywood County, there were only a handful (or less) restaurants that made their food from scratch and it was served with the friendliness only family can provide. Today, I can reminisce those memories at the Pioneer Restaurant, which has steadily supplied the same small town characteristics over decades. There, youâll find great, homestyle cooking (and cute pancake art for kiddos), a blast-from-the-past atmosphere (with bar and booth seating), and staff that greet you as though you are related. Youâll find family here (not just figuratively- it is family owned and operated with âadoptedâ kinship). The food is always fresh, the desserts are always delectable, and you just canât find any other establishment with as many faithful patrons. Do yourself a favor and stop by for a meal whilst reliving a...
Read moreTired of fast food and chain restaurant's, I started looking for a " Mom and Pop " or "Mel's" type place for a change in what was becoming routine. I notice Sherrill's. It was a small white building with limited parking. When I noticed people parking on the side walk to eat here, I knew this was what I was looking for. They offer 1/2 lb burgers and fries, specialty burgers with choice of crazy toppings, shrimp, fish, steaks and baked potatoes. Lunch was your choice of 3 meats and your choice of 3 sides from the 5 they offered. Coffee, sweet tea, juice, water and soft drinks of all kinds were available. The food was fantastic! I recommend the candied yams! Customers from all walks of life. There were bikers, preachers, old and young, vacationers, well dressed and sloppy dressed, walkers, wheelchairs and canes. It was an experience I will never forget and hope to repeat...
