The Best Is Yet To Come!
The smooth sounds of ol' Frankie in the background has me thinking about my recent visit to a place advertising the following. "Best Burgers Around" and "World Famous Burgers". Well, of course that is going to get my attention and yes, yes I did pay this restaurant a visit. Settled just off the highway in the little town of Coats is the House of Coats, the restaurant bold enough to advertise such phrases.
I will start by saying, the burgers being served are certainly worth eating and I would consider stopping back for another, however, if you're going to be bold, you better be able to bring it! In fact, I would ask the owners to take part in the 2015 Burger Challenge taking place in the North Loop this summer and see how they do against the competition and the champs, my pals at B52 Burgers and Brew.
I ordered two Swanne Burgers, their signature burger and of course ordered them pink. I added my condiments as I usually would, cut the bad bad boy in half and there it was... No pink! While still juicy, no pink! There was no waiting for my lips and this burger to meet and thankfully, it was still a pleasant burger to consume. But... To call it the "Best Burger Around" or "World Famous", that's a stretch.
As Frankie so graciously puts it, "you ain't seen nothing yet" until you've tried the other places "around" that serve better which include; King's Place (downright amazing), B52 Burgers and Brew, Jersey's Bar & Grill or my very own creations at home. If "around" is speaking to just Coats, sure! It's the only place in Coats that serves food! AND, if someone orders a pink burger, they want it to be pink, not well done.
The best is yet to come and babe, won't it be fine? Yes Frankie, it sure...
Read moreFirst our waitress was older and needed to learn more personable skills (very short in her responses, not friendly and turns and walks away while you are still talking to her) 😠 The food was ok in flavor. This is the type of place that gives medium to small portions dissatisfied! They use charge $3 + dollars for a small hand full of fries that should come with your hot sandwich for what it costs! This is a place that is known as a stop for winter travelers and snowmobile enthusiasts, and they had zero options for hot soups or at a minimum chili? The atmosphere was nice as far as decor and a gas fireplace but on a Friday night there was no music 🎶 playing for the dinner rush very anti festive for a weeks end sit down: spent good money and walked away hungry! When I tried to share my feedback for the second time after the waitress just gives a short response and walks away from our table the first time, she appeared distracted and unsympathetic. I will not be back. Advice you mom and pop shops can’t afford to loose business due to skimping on your customers food period. Which reputation do you want to proceed you A.) go there they have great portions, you get your money’s worth! Or B.) don’t go there they give you the bare minimum and price gouge you for small sides and the waitress needs some lessons in friendliness !
Option A.) is the right answer for a business owner that knows what it mean’s “You got to spend money to make money 💰 “ and “your reputation precedes you” It’s a shame because the place has a nice look inside knotty pine Minnesota look. Anyhow enough of my soap box rant....
Read moreI have lived 1 mile from House Of Coates for 30 years. The first 1 1/2 years we just thought it was the local bar. We came home from a horse show to no food in the house and decided to give it a try. Best decision we could have made to buy a farm close to a great restaurant. 1 The lunch specials offer great variety of flavors for a cost conscious budget. 2 Broasted Chicken is always moist and tender. 3 The Hamburgers are great but the Signature Burger's are what they are known for with great fries or onion rings. You will never have a bad meal there but my personal favorites are their Taco special Thursday night and Prime Rib on Saturday night. Whenever i travel and try Prime Rib I naturally compare it to theirs as a standard. While a few have been great, none have exceeded their flavor and quality. If you find yourself traveling US highway 52 18 miles south of St.Paul exit County road 46. On the northeast corner of the intersection is The House of Coates . Stop in and give it a try and see why locals and frequent travelers of 52 choose it for before and after Vikings , Twins,. Timberwolves, Wild or any other excuse to enjoy a consistently great meal. P. S. I chose to read other reviews after posting and have to share my reaction. Note the high percentage of 5 star ratings. Some people are never satisfied and nothing is good enough for their high expectations . Always read multiple reviews . throw out the high and low and follow the majority for...
