Cornerstone Cafe & Coffee — Restaurant in Coats

I am normally very pleased with the service and food here but today was different. I brought my daughter here for the first time because I know how great everything usually is here.

First it took a while for us to be asked for our order. Next I ordered the apple cinnamon waffle and mac and cheese. My daughter ordered the smores waffle with bacon and a java chip frappe.

The server didn't ask if she wanted any whip cream, which she wanted but forgot to ask for. Next he came back and said they were out of apples so I had to choose a different waffle. I asked for the menu back, which he took a while to come back with again.

I then ordered a cinnamon roll waffle with the mac and cheese. The mac and cheese came back very dry. Almost tasted cheeseless. My cinnamon roll waffle was amazing. I was happy with that. Next my daughters smores waffle came with no chocolate. Which I went up front to ask about, and the server stated they were out of chocolate chips. Which they should have told us and not give us an incomplete waffle. He agreed to squeeze ghirardelli chocolate on the waffle instead.

It also took a while for the food to come out. He said they were short on the staff in the kitchen, which is acceptable. But it took a long time for him to ask for refill on my tea.

As I said the cinnamon roll waffle was amazing but I probably will never order the mac and cheese again. I will still return because i'm going to hope this was a one off and their waffles are still amazing. Just hope things go...

I’m new to this area so I needed a new coffee shop. The first time I came in the service was not the best but I thought hey, everyone has bad days. I’ve been here maybe 5-10 times now and have yet to see the employees having a good day. They seem truly miserable and have no interest in giving customers a welcoming experience (unless they know you) they will literally screech out of excitement when their friends come in and stop what they’re doing to chat with them. Yet when it comes to taking my order, they’re back to misery. I recommend making the drive to Starbucks in Dunn, because it’s around the same cost for drinks, and the service is always good!

Edit: you do not need to bother looking into it as I highly doubt you’ll actually fire anyone! I’ll keep your cafe in mind if I’m ever extremely desperate with no other...

My wife and I have come in town from Florida and we're looking for somewhere calm and relaxed to have breakfast and lucked out finding this place. The staff is not just helpful or friendly but genuine in their interest to make your experience a good one and that is just not something easily found nowadays. The food is fantastic, wait staff is super friendly and the design / decor is very well done and it doesn't break the bank. That being said, we're now back for dinner and will make another stop before heading home. You guys are doing great, keep it up!
