On our way out of town after a week at Silverwood we decided to grab brunch here because my wife remembered seeing it featured in Diner's Drive-ins and Dives.
Ambiance is nice diner/cafe vibe. Saw a sheet pan full of the Pecan rolls as we walked in. Mood music is 50s/60s mostly but I did hear Hank Williams Jr.'s "A Country Boy Can Survive" and the Dallas TV show theme. The former is early 80s while the latter IIRC young boy (signaled our bedtime) memory, it was an early variant of the theme. So late 70s/early 80s.
We were promptly seated and visited my waitstaff.
The food/drink:
The OJ was standard machine no pulp. The lemonades were similar if not on the weak side wrt lemon flavor. Not bad, just not as amazing as a variant with some semi-intense lemon "bite" to it.
She indicates it was exceptional; like eating strawberry shortcake.
Excellent! Everything is perfectly cooked. Hash browns had great crunch/coloring w/zero burn/overcook. The burrito filling was a proper quantity of an excellent ratio of egg, meat, and cheese. It comes with sour cream and salsa on the side. The only real criticism is the salsa is some lesser super watery bottle/can fare. Other than tasting it, I didn't use it. I think it would have dragged the dish down were it used. I used the sour cream sparingly. It wasn't needed. If it did anything it was perhaps a little extra tanginess.
The waitress indicated they were "silver dollar" in size. They were NOT. They were 4" diameter units. And one slice of bacon. Unsure on cost structure but I think it would be a more balanced dish were they to drop one pancake and add another slice of bacon. As-is it's a lot of pancake for a kid to take down. He did it but not w/out quite a bit of overfull regret. Overall he indicates the pancakes were "very good." It may be worth noting that the butter comes as a big whipped dollop on the side. He doesn't generally enjoy butter on his pancakes so he didn't use it.
it's a good size burger even if it were for an adult; no skimping just because it's on the kid's menu. The patty was juicy, some good browning, and quite tasty (I had a bite). The boy ate half of it and over half of the fries. He says, "It was super good."
We wanted to try the pecan and/or cinnamon roll(s) but we were stuffed and facing a 6 hour drive back to the Seattle area. We didn't think it would be a good idea (from a fairness in letting the items sit out or food safety perspectives) to take one/both to go. Maybe next year we'll try eating here earlier in the week when we have the hotel refrigerator/microwave to fall back on.
Overall, I highly recommend the place. The cost, before tip, for the above was $60. Will...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Jimmy's. I walked in, was greeted by the ladies and was seated quickly. When asked for my drink order I said coffee and water. She was back quickly with drinks, however this is where I began to have concerns about my visit.
I noticed she brought me a dirty coffee cup that had bits of dried food stuck to the rim of the cup. Yuck.
I flagged the waitress down and she replaced the cup and coffee. The coffee was OK, water had no ice. I'd say make sure people are getting ice water.
I had to fight the flies for my booth, maybe set some fly traps up at night and reduce the number of flies buzzing around however it is understandable for the time of year and the in and out traffic all day that it is inevitable flies may enter the building. At least try to control that a little bit.
I ordered the Jimmy's omlette, food came out quickly but I had concerns again with my order. I dug into the omlette and there were tomatoes inside after I had specified to hold the tomatoes. I don't care much for them in my omlettes. So either the waitress failed to write it on the ticket or somebody in the kitchen isn't paying attention to what the orders need to be.
After I notified my waitress that the omlette was made wrong, she offered to get it remade however I had already got into it and was on a time limit at the time. She took the coffee off my bill for it and I thank her for that.
The food is mediocre for a 18.00 bill plus a tip. I didn't care much for the hollandaise, the omlette was soggy, the hash browns are frozen, my English muffin was soggy.
The English muffin was the best part of breakfast sadly. If my bill wait 10 or13 bucks I wouldn't be so critical bit for what I got, I think I over paid.
Didn't get drink refills one time besides the dirty coffee cup swap.
The place is plenty busy, I'm sure other people are pleased with it as shown in other reviews of the place, but I guess my standards are just a wee bit (not much and not unreasonably) higher when I go out to eat.
To sum up my visit- Dirty coffee cup with food bits on the rim, made my order wrong, no drink refills, fighting flies to stay off my food, the food wasn't that great, service is OK, price is out of touch on what you get for quality.
I'd say if you are new here and looking to try other spots, I'm not sure this place will meet expectations for regulars. Maybe? For me, it fell short. I'd probably keep searching- breakfast nook is pretty good and same price, good service, drinks always stay ffull.id say Breakfast nook is better quality, a little better...
Read moreOur uncle kept telling us to go here, so we finally gave it a go when we were in the area. I love the vibe of a locals hang out. It was warm, cozy, and fun the way they decorated everything. The owner, Jimmy, was actually working, and we met him. Really nice guy. When I say working, I mean the staff reminded me of a beehive...they were very busy for breakfast, and they were practically running around. Great Service!
You can have lunch or breakfast anytime and our table of 7 had a little bit of both. From our table, I heard the chicken and dumplings were now a favorite. It looked chock-full of chicken, veggies, and tiny bite-sized dumplings. I had the chicken and waffles. The chicken had good flavor, so I imagine their strips for lunch are really good. The waffle was perfect. Soft on the inside with a bit of crunch on the out. Flavor was good. It came with pecan syrup and was topped with crushed pecans. I could have used more syrup, though, barely a drizzle, which left it kinda dry. I think they forgot to pour. I'm sure I could have asked for more syrup since they were very accommodating and would help you with anything you asked for in a heartbeat. It wasn't a biggie, and they were just so busy that I didn't want to ask.
All around the food was good and we didn't...
