First time eating there today. I like old school breakfasts and this is exactly the type of place I enjoy. I ordered the eggs benedict on the server’s recommendation, very very good. The perfectly poached very large eggs, on shaved ham, with a crispy muffin underneath. The Hollandaise sauce was not home made but was well rendered and tasty. Mmmmm. Potatoes were also perfect.
The thing that makes a simple breakfast exceptional is the attention to detail. The right balance of eggs, meat, sauce and muffin proportions. The muffin cooked to provide a crunch, the ham shaved and grilled perfectly, properly poached eggs and the warm hollandaise in the correct proportion to the aforementioned ingredients.
Here is another important, touch. Properly cooked and grilled country potatoes. These potatoes were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside with the right seasoning. Most breakfast restaurants simply don’t get it anywhere near right. Michael D’s knows how to do it!
The other dish I was contemplating was the Irish scramble (will get that next time). I cannot resist corned beef and eggs.
I love the old school decor and location with plenty of parking and easy access from the freeway.
Very friendly, and excellent service. Service so good I felt like I was under-tipping at 35%
Finally, it seemed like everyone knew each other. Regulars, that means consistently happy customers returning frequently. A sign of a good...
Read moreOh my God! This was so delicious! I had the chicken fried steak with country gravy, eggs scrambled with cheese, breakfast potatoes, and I subbed a blueberry pancake for the toast product. My husband had the happy hog scrambler with a side of biscuits and gravy. I don't know what to brag about first... The chicken fried steak was excellent! It was cooked perfection, sometimes you get a little soggy chicken fried steak but this was NOT like that at all! The gravy was perfect! I like the way they chunk up their sausage in their gravy. The pancake was somewhere between a crepe and a pancake with this crisp outside that almost felt fried, but this light fluffy inside. That was amazing! I did NOT need syrup! But the potatoes... THE POTATOES!!!!! Normally breakfast potatoes are... you know, whatever. They made THESE breakfast potatoes so crisp on the outside but almost creamy on the inside! And the flavoring was beautiful. Balance salty Rosemary... This is literally making me drool as I type this. My husband and I live in Montana, but we discussed it, and after eating at this place, we have decided we're picking up our whole lives, quitting our jobs and moving to Coeur d'Alene... within walking distance of this restaurant. So, if you come to this restaurant, just look for us. We will be the couple that weigh 500lb from gorging ourselves eating...
Read moreAfter checking-out some of the sites in the beautiful City of Coeur d'Alene, my wife and I saw Michael D's, as we were driving by and decided to have lunch there but had a couple of places to see first. After doing a quick GOOGLE search and finding that they serve fish and chips and received great Reviews, we returned and to say we were impressed with our meals and service is a huge understatement. Amy was an excellent server and a super representative of Michael D's. She answered our questions on some photos that are displayed and did so with a smile and never seeming to be rushed. We both ordered the fish and chips. I had a salad; wife ordered sweet potato fries. Both plates also came with cole slaw along with 3 pieces of what I believe may be, 3pieces of the best beer-battered cod money can buy. Wife likes cole slaw and said it was really good. The restaurant is very clean and well-run. Prices are very reasonable and portions are ample. We're glad we stopped in and if we ever get back, we'll eat there again. Now, all that's left is to ask...How do they get those flowers in the hanging baskets, out front, to grow so lush...
