Shows promise.
While perusing dining options, I was excited to find that Terraza offers Peruvian cuisine. This would be entirely new to my wife and me, but we anticipated dishes reminiscent of Guatemala and Costa Rica, a vast change from the cheddar-Mex that is so prevalent here.
The cafeteria-like atmosphere is lacking, since I prefer cozy, more intimate dining. I do understand that the openness lends itself to providing all diners with a view of the river. Decor is contemporary. The music wasn't for me. Thomas/Santana "Smooth" should be banned.
The ceviche was very unique. The acidic, briney dish we are accustomed to was replaced with subtle sweet spice concoction similar to a horchata. It was quite interesting and we enjoyed every bite.
The guacamole was fresh, bright and uncomplicated. Perfect.
The mole was good, a lighter, spicier version of the varieties we enjoy from Mexico.
The pork shank itself was good, but as a whole, the dish was a failure. The "masa pudding" was so full of cotija that the corn flavor was lost and was unbearably salty. The pork was well seasoned and would have benefited from a sweet masa. The piña failed add sufficient sweetness or acid to balance the dish and I could live without it. The only saving grace was the pickled onions, of which there were too few. I would have enjoyed a full tablespoon of them as they complimented the pork quite well.
Our server and bartender were attentive and delightful. Unfortunately, the open kitchen gave us visibility to newly arrived wait staff preparing for their shift in street clothes, fixing their hair up, checking their phones, etc. We found this to be rather off-putting and unprofessional.
Last, many reviews complain about price. If the kitchen can elevate the dishes a bit, the prices would be spot on.
We're intrigued by what Terraza has to offer and will visit again in...
Read moreWe have eaten at Terrazza many times in the past and it has been fine. We went in for Sunday brunch with a small group and had one of the worst experiences we’ve had in a restaurant to date. The hostess is a complete airhead and had no idea we had even sat down at our table. We didn’t get menus for 20 minutes or even a greeting from our server. When I went to the restroom, It clearly had not been cleaned in quite a while and was out of paper products. I told the manager about this and she said she would be in right away to bring new products. This never happened the entire time we were there. Once our food finally came, it was horrible! The biscuits and gravy were inedible. The gravy was congealed and the biscuits were hard (as if they sat under a heat lamp for way too long). The potatoes look like stale cafeteria potatoes. And the eggs were not over easy, they were over hard! The chicken tacos each had two small pieces of fatty chicken And a bunch of red cabbage. That was it! The waitress never came to check on our food. We had to ask six times total between two of us for water! Only to heft eye rolls from our server. We even asked the manager at one point for water and it still took another 15 minutes to get it. Because our server NEVER checked on us, my husband went to order a beer at the bar only to be told rudely by the bartender that he needed to pay for his beer there and would not add it to our check. Our checks never came and when they finally did, our plates still had not been cleared. We sat there with dirty plates and no check for an hour! One of the husbands mentioned the issues to the manager on the way out and she didn’t even apologize or say anything to make him feel better about the experience. We will absolutely never return to this restaurant. And sadly, we will be sharing our experience with our...
Read moreI typically really hate to complain about local businessrs. However, I truly felt a bit compelled to. My husband and I are frequent flyers at terraza, and generally have great food and service, so when we had a guest from out of town staying with us it was one of the places we felt we had to take him! We made a reservation for 4pm, for the 3 of us, and were there a few mins after 4. The experience started off not great when we sat for about 15-20 mins with no greeting or drink order taken from our server. Finally, after she arrived and got our drink and appetizer order, our drinks were to our table at about 4:40... again, we had been there since a few mins after 4. When the first round of margaritas arrived, our guest we were treating to dinner had a bug in his margarita... we alerted the server of this issue, and she brought him a new beverage. Our food came and we placed another drink order... And before the server had even left the table, our guest looked at his margarita, and yet again... another bug in his margarita. I will say I felt embarrassed, bc I was the one that was dying to take him there, and then this experience happened. I honestly will say, I was truly pretty surprised that our server didn't offer any sort of compensation given our experience. Super disappointed in our overall dining experience. Terraza appears to be under new, underwhelming ownership. The service and quality use to be far superior. I tried to handle my complaint privately, but it appears the new owners don't really care to hear the complaints or take them even remotely serious. I feel this restaurant will have a hard time staying afloat once the summer and tourist season comes to an end. Use to be our go to for happy hour, but the new happy hour menu is also very underwhelming....
