Le Peep Café – A Satisfying Brunch with Memorable Flavors
We had a lovely brunch at Le Peep Café in Coeur d’Alene, with a few standout dishes and some minor drawbacks that didn’t take away too much from the overall experience.
The highlight of our meal was the Rock Lobster Scramble. The scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked—soft, fluffy, and well-balanced with brie cheese and tender chunks of lobster. The dish was rich, buttery, and indulgent in the best way. It was served on a thick plate, which I believe helped retain heat, keeping the scramble warm until the last bite.
The potato side and bread weren’t quite as impressive—fairly standard and less memorable—but since the scramble was the main attraction, it didn’t feel like a major loss, especially considering the reasonable price point.
We also ordered a grilled trout side, which was cooked to near perfection. The skin was crisp, though it was served skin-down, which can soften the crispiness. I flipped it over right away to preserve the texture, and it held up beautifully. The inside was moist, flavorful, and well-grilled—a true nod to Idaho’s regional specialty. At $9.50 pre-tax and tip, it felt like a fair price for the portion and quality, especially for visitors looking to experience local trout.
The vanilla latte, however, was overly sweet and too milky for our taste. At $6.50, we expected a better balance of coffee and flavor. That said, sweeter lattes may be the norm in smaller towns like Coeur d’Alene, so others may enjoy it more than we did.
Service was friendly and attentive. The owner even came by to check in, which we appreciated. However, we did encounter a sticky table and one dirty cup when we first sat down. While the staff handled it quickly and kindly, it’s worth noting as an area for improvement in overall cleanliness.

Final Thoughts Le Peep Café offers delicious, thoughtfully-prepared brunch options with standouts like the lobster scramble and grilled trout. While there’s room for improvement on some sides and service details, the flavor, portion size, and warm service made it a spot we’d be happy to return to—especially for anyone exploring Coeur d’Alene and looking to try a local twist on...
Read moreWe have always loved Le Peep. It had been a while since we had gone and decided Saturday breakfast was a great idea. It was very busy but were informed the wait was only 15 minutes. We waited and were seated fairly quickly. Our order was taken and our lattes were brought out in a decent time. It took a while to bring out food out but it eventually came. I had ordered the Desperado Skillet and my boyfriend ordered the Omelet. Once our food was at our table, the server set the receipt down and said "No Rush" and never came back to check on us until we were getting up. Both of us would have enjoyed another coffee but we weren't even asked when our cups were almost empty. The Omelet was served with a very small portion of potatoes that were barely warmed up and unseasoned. They looked like they were rush cooked and thrown on the plate, only being brown on one side of the potato square. The omelet was so overcooked on the outside and inside that it was dark brown on both sides of the egg. It was a disappointment to say the least. It resembled more of a egg taco holding the ingredient than a well composed omelet. My skillet also contained the same potatoes that had no color or seasoning. I had asked for the green chile to be on my skillet and that was missing. Everything tasted very bland. Our food overall tasted subpar and our server never came back so we couldn't say anything. We felt rushed to get our food and get out so that they could serve the bigger parties waiting to be sat. This was extremely disappointing. It's always been a go-to spot for breakfast in town for a long time. Now the quality has fallen below par and I will not be coming back. It's sad to see another local spot lose control over their quality of food...
Read moreAfter many many times of seeing people post about this place we decided to give it a try.. and WE ARE SURE GLAD WE DID! Do not forget if you park across the way to put your license plate in up front which they do remind you which is great! We were seated promptly with an amazing view of the lake. Seems anywhere you sit in the dining area you will have a great view! Also rest assured if you are a bigger person like myself and worry about the seating it is great. As they have tables, and booths and half tables and booths. Very comfortable. For all of the people who hate waiting for the refills no need here as they leave the carafe! And fill them promptly when empty. Now onto the part you are all waiting for! The food! Our wonderfully amazing waitress Kaylin gave us some great recommendations to choose from explaining and answering any and all questions without rushing us. I ordered the desperado skillet and my spouse ordered the very berry French toast. (She will be leaving a separate review) but I did taste a little bit of hers and it was ...amazing. as someone who loves French toast but normally finds it too sweet...this was amazing! The perfect balance! The berries were not soft or mushy they were perfect. Now if you made it this far. Just get the desperado! It's amazing. And make sure to get it as it comes! I got the pork Verde salsa inside I believe. This bowl was amazing! Not overly salty at all! Best way to describe it is a Chile Verde burrito flavor. The chorizo was not the main component on this. The star is that Chile Verde! So go give them a visit! And take a nice walk after on the boardwalk! It helps lol Thanks Kaylin you made our first and definitely not last...
