Josh & John's — Restaurant in Colorado Springs

After dinner in the area, my wife and I decided to stop by the 2022 Gazette’s Best of the Springs Gold Medal (Ice Cream) Winner, Josh and John’s.

The inside of this store is larger than anticipated and clean throughout. We arrived around 8:00 PM with no line on a Thursday.

We received great service from the two employees at the counter. I think we tried 5 different flavors and they were happy to give us samples.

After trying out different flavors, my wife got a cup with a scoop of peanut butter and a scoop of chocolate. She enjoyed it to say the least.

I ended up getting a waffle cone with a scoop of peanut butter and a scoop of the Ukrainian Honey Babka. It was nice to see that they charge an extra $0.25 on this flavor in order for them to donate that quarter to a Ukrainian relief fund.

Let me say that we walked in while the employees were making the waffle cones and they tasted homemade. The waffle cone itself had a crispy exterior and even was slightly warm. As a result, this fresh waffle cone elevated my experience from the first bite.

The peanut butter flavor is very heavy on peanut butter which is perfect for me. This flavor includes some peanut butter cups as well which just makes this flavor even better.

The Ukrainian Honey Babka flavor delivered too! The honey is very prevalent and creates a sweet touch that makes the ice cream smooth and delicate.

Overall this was a great spot to get our ice cream fix in after a nice dinner. Do yourself a favor and go for one of their waffle...

I don’t know how the ice cream tastes, but the service we had was bad. The male employee with blonde hair in a ponytail working last night was the only employee we interacted with. It was our first time coming in, we were excited to try. I asked if the rocky road was gluten free & he responded that “he tells everyone no, bc it has marshmallow, cocoa, nuts...” (none of which have gluten in them). As a gluten-free ice cream fanatic... rocky road is my go-to! I was feeling discouraged. My kids & husband ordered & I decided not to get anything. The total was $8. We handed him a $10 gift card. I was waiting for change when he closed the cash register. I asked if he was going to give us change & he said no, they don’t give change on gift cards. I asked if we could order another kiddie size & he said no bc I am over 12. Really? I would understand this if I didn’t have two kids with me, but I did. Why can’t they share a second one???... we had an extra $2 to spend. Went in excited, left feeling lied to & cheated. Not a...

Josh and John's used to be my favorite go-to ice cream place, and honestly it's still pretty good ice cream. However, it seems like everytime we go in the loyalty rewards system has changed, and the price are higher. They stopped accepting the paper punch cards with no warning. Then they introduced cute little plastic cards. That existed for about 6 months. Now we are required to download an app, which would be fine, but AT&T service does not work here, and here is no wifi. It is just hard for a previous loyal customer to have the loyalty program not work. I know it's not fully Josh and John's fault but it would be nice to have options, or at least a phone number system.

Update: the owners kindly reached out and apologized and tried to improve my experience. The sentiment was kind and I appreciated their efforts. They told me some other options...
