This has to be the worst dining experience I have had in Beaver Creek. I made reservations for dinner for my family of 5 the day before Thanksgiving. Upon arrival we were led outside in 21 degree weather to sit on low-to-the-ground wicker patio furniture. I literally felt like I was on a child's potty. Meals were served on a half table that had a decorative fire in the middle (it provided no significant heat). They had heaters above the table, but was not in service! We all froze ourselves senseless during the entire meal. We had NOT been told that the restaurant seated most of their clientele outside. It was so cold, my wife and I spent most of the time hanging around the bathroom to try to warm up. Finally we had to leave the restaurant after suffering for 90 minutes - we went home and raided the refrigerator. You might say, "well, you should definitely have been able to finish a sushi meal in 90 minute." You'd be wrong - the California rolls hadn't even been served by then - service is crazy slow. Not a single recognition of our suffering - management was nowhere to be found. We left our adult children to finish the meal and pay the check. When I got the bill I was flabbergasted - $736 BEFORE the tip. Save yourself the suffering of abuse, go to any of the fine establishments found everywhere else in...
Read moreOur group of four recently ate dinner at SAKABA. The restaurant is small and located in the Ritz Carlton Hotel. There was free valet parking at the hotel, which was very convenient, and we had made a reservation in advance and were seated immediately. This is where the rest of the experience went from meeting our expectations to underwhelming.
Service. The staff was very friendly; however, remarkably unfamiliar with the menu. One member of our group has a gluten intolerance. When we asked the waiter what menu items were available GF, he simply said he didn't know. Got the same response when another member of our group asked what beers were on tap--I don't know. Recommendations on wine? Didn't know.
Food. The food was good--nothing spectacular, and not at all worth the $40 per roll that we paid. But it was good. The highlight was the truffle ponzu sauce that came with the tuna roll.
Overall, the restaurant is extremely over-priced for the quality of food, and the service level would be considered average at best for a normal restaurant. I would have considered it substantially sub-par for a fine...
Read moreSakaba is more than it’s Japanese namesake, more than a simple upscale sushi bar in a resort. Sakaba is the GO TO sushi restaurant in Vail. Sakaba is a full foodie experience, serving food that is beyond words for how deliciously divine. Pair that with the friendliness wait staff who are without a doubt the best in the world. The entire meal from start to finish was a feast for the senses. Each course is stunningly plated. Each sushi and sashimi dish is unique and delectable with something truly special that the chefs have infused into each of them and I recommend adding extra fresh wasabi, to give the sushi a smooth spiciness that enhances the already mouth watering pieces. For a main course the Miso Black Cod is a must for all seafood lovers. And for dessert one must try the Miso Crème Brûlée as it is so inventive and works beautifully. The miso brings a unique Japanese taste to the classic dessert that makes it a delight. Of course, if a dinner guest has not a sweet tooth, the Hamachi as a dessert is a refreshing after...
