If you like good food with tiny portions and high prices, Viva Vegan will fit your bill, otherwise if you expect to leave full after paying a lot, you will not want to come here. Being a vegan for over 20 years this place is hands down the worse value we had ever eaten at. When they brought out our food, we both asked each other, "Where is the rest?". We seriously were confused having just paid around $40 that we were being brought out looked like only half of what we paid for. For example, I ordered their Birria taco trio and in the pictures it showed actually tacos, but instead what I got was three tiny bite size tacos (yes, the kind you pass up at the grocery store thinking ,"who would want a bite size taco?"). I literally only got about a taco and a half of food as the bite size tortillas they use are literally that, just bite size. Furthermore, I was expecting for the price at least a side of rice and beans and instead my three little micro tacos where all I was given. The salsa portion mimiked the whole meal with a tiny little cup (probably 5 TBSP) of salsa (which was honestly fine since my micro tacos could not have fit much anyway). I will say the total of 6 tiny bites of the micro tacos were good, but they were also torture as my stomach knew what my eyes where telling me, "Where is the rest? This is not a meal?". I was hungry and angry knowing I had just paid in insane amount for three micro tacos with no side. My husband was not much in a better boat with his burrito, it too was small (although could not be described as micro as my tacos-at least he had something more than a few bites), but the burrito was lack luster as well with hardly any protein and not much flavor (we are used to Cena sized burritos to which this was only 20 % of the size for the same price). He also did not get a side with his meal and also got the tiny ration size salsa which was insanely too small even for a small burrito. The staff was super nice, but the place was dingy and needed cleaning (which could all have been overlooked if we were not both still hungry afterward). Needless to say, we will never come back here as it was a hard pill to swallow paying so much for the smallest portions we have seen in our 20 years of...
Read moreIf you follow my reviews, you know that I eat vegetarian food twice a week. That means that I am always on the lookout for good restaurants with meatless options. To find one that goes all the way to vegan is a special discovery. Viva Vegan is a pretty unassuming place. It is located in a more or less industrial area of Colton and is tiny. While there are picnic tables on a side patio, the indoor seating area is only about 20 by 20, with two booths and two tables. I visited on Taco Tuesday (by happenstance), so I chose the "Taco Trio" which comes with a "free" fourth taco. The "meat" options include "asada," "al pastor," "birria," and "carnitas" -- of which I selected two each of the first two. I was not expecting what are essentially street tacos, so they were smaller than I envisioned, but the whole meal ended up being quite filling. I was asked if I wanted cilantro and onions (which I did) plus they were topped with a green sauce that, I assume, was avocado-based. Without asking, I was served a generous bowl of chips with a chunky salsa, that had a slight "bite." I choose the hibiscus drink, which was tasty. When I was asked if I wanted to include rice and beans, I consented, but with some trepidation, because I have grown weary of the glop most Mexican food places serve as refried beans. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that they were, instead, firm pinto beans, nicely seasoned, and not swimming in a watery sauce. The rice, on the other hand, was disappointing. It was so mildly seasoned as to be nearly tasteless, and contained nothing else -- no celery, no peppers, and no onions -- plus it was clumpy. The staff was attentive, offering to explain the options and asking about my needs several times. This place is worth your time to locate and worthy of another visit. While not perfect, Viva Vegan is Highly...
Read moreOrdered a chorizo burrito and I couldn't have been more disappointed. Walking into the place you could see that it needed some serious deep cleaning. You could even notice just how dirty the walls of the kitchen were. Almost as if they weren't cleaned the night before. Anyway, I decided to order some food despite all the red flags going off in my mind and give this place a genuine try...However, I should've known better.
The burrito was $18.48! I was expecting more but instead I got a mediocre dish that was salted more than the ocean itself. For an almost $20 burrito the expectation was higher and charging that amount with no real meat, an excessive amount of salt, and a poorly maintained/cleaned restaurant is astounding...but what do I know I'm just a guy trying to get some food🤷🏽♂️
A local restaurant less than 2mi away is serving a burrito that goes for $11.99 and you have the option to add meat if you'd like!! And they're not charging you a $1 extra for any salsas you add to your order...even online you can order up to 4 salsas with...
