The absolute worst/rudest service I’ve ever experienced. Went in to get a menu and asked if it was okay to grab one off the table. After the woman huffed and said “yea but you’ll need to come back in and give your order we aren’t coming out to you”, no big deal that’s fine. Go back in and order from a woman who seemed like she’d rather be literally anywhere else than here says to go ahead and order. As I start to speak she cuts me off so she can get onto another employee about the drink she prepared herself and how it was to big and she’d have to pay. I wait for her to get done speaking to her co worker and she looks and me and says ”come on”. So I order and get to the portion of paying which offers a tip amount. And while I’m already entirely underwhelmed by the place tip 18% of my 50-60 dollar meal. She said she’d bring the food out which shocked me. I grabbed silverware on the way out.

She brings the food out and looks at our table and tells us “you’ll need to bring that silverware back inside when you’re done”

So it dawns on me in that moment “what in the actual he** did I tip these people for”

Three fellow customers on the patio came out of the door carrying their own food and comparing about the wait time along with the workers just being rude. Which turned into me and 15 other patio customers discussing how awful the service is and how much this place has gone down.

The saving grace was the food managed to be delicious still. And while I’ll try again there’s only so much rude eye rolling, clearly irritated your here type of service one can take.

Fire your front desk staff and try again because this place is a treasure to Columbia that they’ll ruin with their lack of...

We always love coming to the Cafe on the Abby but recently have had terrible experiences. We attempted to celebrate mothers day and our wedding anniversary Sunday but after two hours left without a meal and very disappointed. When we arrived the patio was busy but seemed to be going well! We were told we had to wait to 20 minutes to order which was no problem and completely understood. Once we ordered we waited about an hour and noticed other tables around us that were seated after us were receiving their food. At this point our server did not come to check on us or give us an update on our food. We continued to wait about another twenty minutes until we found our waitress and asked her where our food was and asked for our check for our drinks because we had to be somewhere shortly. When we asked about our food she stated she was wondering where our food was at and let us know it probably got lost. She gave us the option to stay and wait but it would be another 20 minutes before we could order. We decided to leave and were told we were good and no other explanation or apology about our long wait to leave hungry. Again we used to love this place and would always go there to celebrate big events or a nice day on the patio but after several trips there to wait long for food or no food we sadly will probably...

This spot is truly a hidden gem.

Coffee: I'm very picky when it comes to coffee and worked as a barista so I know good coffee, and their coffee is good. Lots of flavors/roasts to choose from and they update their drink menu every now and then with fun combinations.

Food: Their food is presented well and tastes very good. Fresh fruits, fluffy waffles, etc. They also have a yummy pastry case and offer thanksgiving catering, holiday related gifts like chocolate easter bunnies for example, and more.

Atmosphere: Located in a cute little town with fun shops to explore after you eat, the building itself is beautiful and you can eat outside on a cute patio when the weather is nice. Their logo is very cute as well.

Service: Service is pretty good, they take care of your to go orders very thoughtfully. It is pretty busy sometimes so when you walk in you won't always be met by somebody and you might be confused if you have to wait to be sat, but i've found you can usually just walk in and sit down.

Price: Gets expensive quick, this is a nice treat for once in a blue moon. I put $50-100 because I always eat here with someone and the price ends up around 50-60 ish, tax and tip...

Exploring Main Street in Columbia, Illinois, just 15 minutes from St. Louis! Cafe on the Abbey is a delightful spot for breakfast. Everything made from scratch, locally sourced ingredients, and a diverse coffee bar. Tried their French toast with sausage – absolutely amazing! Solid 5/5 rating from me. #CafeOnTheAbbey #BreakfastDelight
