This is absolutely devastating that I have to write such a poor review on a place that has such great food! But… seeing as how the owner treated me today it’s definitely in order. I placed an order for an xtra spicy grilled lamb with rice, beans, and potato salad. Normally they show your food before leaving, but this particular time that wasn’t done due to the fact of the store being busy and it being rush-hour. So I’m on the highway and decided to look at my food, and I immediately noticed that the potato salad is missing. So I did what any paying customer would do with a complaint. I called the establishment to inform them of the mishap to no avail there was no answer after I attempted five times or so. After discovering the potato salad was not included in the meal I began to try and eat the food in utter disappointment because I didn’t have my potato salad and with the food being extra spicy without having the potato salad to balance out the spices, it made it extremely difficult to eat, so I was unable to finish meal. On the following day, I return to the stores location to inform them of the mistake and with the remainder of the food in hopes of them rectifying the situation. But instead, the owner opens up the container and starts to complain that I’ve eaten some of the food. after making me feel as though I were a charity case, I offered to pay, because I’m not going to go back and forth over a $18.00 meal. But instead she opted to provide me with an order of oxtails. I informed her that I did not want that. I wanted what I paid for and if she didn’t want to compensate me for that. Again, I was more than willing to pay for it. but, she told me that she “didn’t want my money.” so I’m sitting there under the impression that she’s going to give me what I paid for but instead I left with an order of oxtails and potato salad. And in no way am I trying to bash this restaurant, but as a black business that is thriving in the community. I would appreciate if proper customer service orientation was presented at that moment. It’s really sad because before going in there I kind of figured that there would be an issue with me complaining about the food that I purchased. And you should never feel that way about a place that you have been a customer of for years!! But in order to do better we must learn...
Read moreThis had to be one of the worse Jamaican restaurants I've ever eaten at. If you love spicy food this place is for you. I usually get jerk chicken but was advised it was spicy so settled on the red snapper. I am not Jamaican but I know what good Jamaican food is suppose to look like and taste like. My husband, who is Jamaican, asked the lady taking our order questions about the food and was very precise on what he wanted. Is the plantain ripe or green? I want my Red snapper escovitch. The food comes and the fish is fried beyond consumption. The gravy that came with it was so spicy it felt like I was eating hot tamales. My sister in law, who is also from the Caribbean, says she does not eat at this restaurant. They eat at the Jamaican restaurant down the street from here. I did call her when we were on our way but she didn't answer. This is the second restaurant that I've been to that was on the diners, drive-ins, & dives tv show that did not live up to the hype. So sad!
After reading the other reviews, most Jamaicans or Caribbean are not pleased with the food here. It caters more to the American idea of Jamaican food and not the authenticity of the Jamaican culture.
Update: To be clear both myself and my husband got the same dish. The Escovitch was fried beyond consumption there is a difference between fried food you can eat that still contains it's moisture and fried food that is...
Read moreMy friend and I have lunch together every other week and we were Jonesing for some great Jerk chicken and decided (based on the stellar reviews) on Enas Caribbean Kitchen. We weren’t disappointed! It was awesome. We had the Jerk chicken plate with Mac and cheese, collard greens (with turkey) & red beans and rice as our sides. We paid extra for the Mac & cheese and our lunch came in @$19. Worth every single penny!! Not only did the spice heat level live up to the Jerk blend used (I asked for extra scotch bonnet peppers), but the gravy of the Jerk was phenomenal and the collards were next level delicious! Miss Ena and her team were so kind and professional to us that when there was a shortage of available tables, they brought one out of the kitchen and set it up for us in the dining room. Great service and even checked in with us while we were demolishing our lunch. Can’t say enough awesome things about Miss Ena and her namesake restaurant Kitchen. We will def be back and we tell everyone how good it was! 5...
