This pains me to leave this review. My wife and I found this place over a year ago and it became our favorite place in the Butte/Colusa county area to go to for dinner. It was great. Service was quick and they had my favorite menu item, the Knuckle Sammich. It was delicious. After a while it went away and I was very sad and disappointed but tried finding other things. Then the “incident” happened and the owners were forced to sell. Now comes this week’s experience.
We knew that it changed to table service and we were excited to go back. We were seated at a table quickly and told a server would be right with us. Nothing. It was around 15 minutes and we gave up and got someone to come take drink orders. When we did get them there was no apology, no sorry about that or anything. There was only 2-3 tables occupied and there were at least 2 servers in the restaurant so they weren’t slammed. Once we got our drinks we ordered food not too long after that. We got a plate of steak tips as an appetizer and those were actually pretty good. My Knuckle Sammich has been long gone off the menu so I’ve tried a few different things. This day I tried the BBQ Brisket Poutine. A year ago the poutine was completely different and was actually poutine. Now it’s fries with beer cheese that has become flavorless and the brisket was dry and tasteless. Poutine is supposed to be made with a gravy (and it used to be) not a beer cheese. It was not good at all and 80% of it went uneaten. My wife got her usual Big Chicken Mac and it was as good as it always has been. Couple other dishes that were ordered by my sister and her kids were decent but not great. One of the worst things now is the amount of flies in the restaurant! It’s DISGUSTING! I know there’s water and it’s a swampish area but there were well over 100 flys in the dining area. Surely something can be done about this. I don’t even want to know how many are in the kitchen. Over $100 wasted and I felt so bad bringing my sister all the way out here from Lincoln.
Food- 2/5 Just because some people enjoyed their food but 3 of us did not at all. Service- 1/5 Server wasn’t pleasant and took 15 minutes to get a simple drink order after we had to go find someone. Atmosphere- 2/5 The flies killed it. It still feels like the old place and table service can work, but servers need to be attentive and nice.
I hate to say that I won’t be returning. This was my...
Read moreCame here because of the poutine line item. Disappointed to realize it's not poutine at all. More like random-cheese-and-fries, at least per the menu pictures.
Before going further in this review, let me say that the menu is ambitious and original, which we appreciated. But the execution wasn't there. Not wanting to be disappointed by the unpromising poutine, we ordered something else: buddha bowl and tri-tip sandwich. Both were pretty meh. Then, the presentation in small throwable containers was disappointing; plastic utensils and tiny carton box. Alas, the service was extremely minimal: when asking for fork/knife, only a pair was brought for a group of 2 adults and a kid. Then when asking for water, a single empty plastic cup... come on! No smile was included either, felt like we were annoying the waitress by our mere presence. The ToastApp ordering experience was quite impersonal as well, but that's not a biggy, we're used to it.
3 stars for the original menu, but otherwise I can't recommend this place unless you drive by and have low...
Read moreVisited Jan. 3rd..see receipt as always. I have been wanting to go to this place since I saw it last year on Good Day Sacramento with Cody!
This place did not disappoint! It is on the Sacramento river in Colusa California. There is indoor and outside seating plus a separate bar area to dine. Full bar.
I ordered the steak bites with some amazing garlic bread along with pub pretzels with beer cheese. Most of this was to go but I sampled everything and it was delicious! The steak was tender and the pretzels were warm. It's an unassuming place with great water views and friendly people.
I heard it gets really busy when the weather gets warm with all the boaters pulling in and live music!
My friend was right when she said to stop in here during my long drive - so relaxing and plenty of parking! So pleasantly surprised how great the food was! It was pretty busy at lunch in the bar and dining area but food got out quickly!
Thank you Avery for great customer service! I definitely will be back before...
