For paying nearly $100 I think I should be a lot more pleased. They don't do substitutions. I wanted salmon instead of swordfish in the seafood platter but waitress said no which is actually pretty F'd up. Restaurants're supposed to cater to patrons & please them. When you wont do subs then it's not possible to perform at 100% EVER. My BFF & I went there last night(12/3/16). Pretty decent food. They need up their proportions or lower prices. Our waitress (Bett) seemed like she was going to be a superb waitress but she ended up being pretty rude towards the end of our stay. She seemed really annoyed. My friend asked for a soda refill, the waitress took a long time to come back. When she did, she attended to the table next to us first. Another point she came around I let her know I wanted to place an order to go(for my father cuz he love seafood), her face went COMPLETELY sour, she REALLY DID roll her eyes. I was seriously shocked. I wasn't sure if my friend noticed it as well but when we'd left the joint she asked me if I saw the waitress roll her eyes, so, it was a very obvious thing. When I finished placing the to-go order she grabbed the menu from my hands, slammed it shut, said, "okay that comes with two sides, bread and cole slaw" then left really quickly. She couldn't get away any faster unless she literally ran. I feel as if she should've asked me what I wanted for sides not TOLD me what I was getting & left without even asking if we needed anything else. The waitress brought the to-go order without the check. My friend & I were ready to leave, we had on our jackets, stuff together, the table was all cleared off. We were wondering if we're supposed to go the front counter to pay, we weren't sure. After some minutes she did bring the check. She came to the table, dropped the check off, and walked away fast. So this made us think we're supposed to go to the front counter to pay for our meal. Some restaurants are like that & we were clearly ready to leave the last two times she'd come by the table,& didn't collect payment. We stood up to go & pay, she ran over to us asking why we were trying to leave without paying her. I apologized, said I thought we were supposed to pay out at the front desk. Then verryy loudly, visibly upset, she said "No you pay your waitress!" People around us were looking & she made it seem like we were trying to dine&dash. If she'd done that prior to me writing in the tip I would had wrote $0 instead of $5. The cost of everything was just under $80. She was lucky to get $5 tip. I will not choose to go out of my way to go there again as I did last night. It's about 30 minutes from home. We went there specifically & it's likely I will not go there again. Before going I did read some reviews. One reviewer gave a 1-star rating, reason was the staff. I just brushed it off but I can totally understand it now. This restaurant need do something about their staff, it's really lacking good service. I was watching staff, none of them seemed at all happy in the least. They seemed really irked. Most of the staff looked super young like they was either in high school still, or looked older like in 40's/50's. I suspect this restaurant doesn't pay well, hiring manager is desperate, and therefore doesn't have great staff. I did bring my dad his meal. I didn't share my opinions with him before he ate his meal. I wanted to get his genuine opinion. He's almost 70, grew up in Boston, he knows seafood pretty well. I got his his favorite; fried clams, fried sea scallops. He said it was gross, especially the sea scallops. He said they were too gooey as if not completely cooked. The clams were gooey too. The scallops and clams almost tasted the same. The cole slaw was good though. He thanked me for thinking about him, but said he could've gotten better from South...
Read moreI delivered a truck to Laconia New Hampshire and since I'm a transporter I always tow my along behind me. After I delivered this unit I had noticed that there was a seafood restaurant a few miles back the way I came. With an insatiable desire for some fish and chips I decided why not. I love East Coast seafood. I walked in to be greeted witha casual slightly upscale traditional local New England atmosphere. The manager kindly told me to go ahead and sit anywhere I wanted to since I was alone so I went to the bar. I was greeted by a lovely waitress named a Ekatrina who sat me by a window seat at a comfortable table where I had a full view of the establishment. She offered me a menu but I already knew what I wanted and I ordered the large fish and chips because she said that the fish was haddock, I absolutely adore haddock. I didn't order a drink. I really wanted was water and she brought that with a tartar sauce and a side of fresh homemade coleslaw which was delicious. 5 to 8 minutes later I was presented with an enormous piece of haddock lightly breaded cooked to perfection flaky sweet moist and delicious with a moderate handful of seasoned french fries and I indulged. Personally, I could have eaten three pieces of it though I wouldn't have been worth anything for 3 days I would have been happy. In 64 years that was quite certainly the best piece of fish that I've EVER personally consumed anywhere at anytime. I don't say this lightly, I grew up near the Atlantic Ocean with fisherman in my family and my neighbors who all used to go fishing every week out on the ocean. My wife is from Boothbay harbor Maine and getting lobster and seafood is as easy as getting a McDonald's cheeseburger in anywhere USA. The last piece of fish that I had there was 20 years ago that could compare with this piece of fish was also haddock. That was a close second to this one, now everything else that I've had prior just became normal and good or not quite as good as anything else. This place stands alone with that meal I was served. Before becoming an independent driver I was a restaurant manager for 34 and a half years for various private owned and large corporations as well as sous chef at a major casino for a brief stint. My hat goes off to the outstanding service the clean wonderful smells a great evening a wonderful waitress a nice manager and an obviously good chef who knows how to fry a large piece of fish keep the breading light fry the fish incredibly to perfection and not have grease all over the plate possibly treating customers heartburn. (A major skill. Try it sometime). I would travel 50 miles in One direction just to get another piece. This is the MOST solid five star that I've ever rated on Google. I urgently suggest if you're in this area to visit and support this wonderful New Hampshire gem Thank you Makris restaurant and the ever lovely Ekatrina for a wonderful stop on a 2000 mile round trip journey. I hope I can come back again soon but later we'll be okay too as long as I...
Read moreFood wasn't all we were hoping for. Our grandson on leave from Japan with his wife inroute to his new base in California. Seafood was big on our choices how ever with entrees with one side which in itself wasn't an issue however the baked potato was cold and dried out , rolls were also cold. And the choices for sides were limited and though we did choose French fries they were cold and over cooked. Portion sizes though we ordered the large size meal that on the salmon and two way fried and baked seafood doubt there was 4 ozs each. Fried seafood was over cooked. My seafood chowder came as clam chowder waited stated that's what was ordered even though I stated seafood chowder twice. And c it came cold and had to go back to the kitchen and they nuked it. It wasn't like they were busy because other than one other table of 2 in the dinning room. When we arrived there was a table of 8 that was just starting a birthday cake they had brought in so they didn't interfere with service, the help was there but service was horrible. I could go on and on but think you get the jest of how the night went. Our bill was over $170 for 6 people. We're no cheap people by no means but the whole experience was not worth it not when the whole experience was so bad. We had tried the place years ago but heard a few years ago that a new owner was there now so we gave it another try. BUT there will NOT be another chance. I usually try to be supportive to local businesses but it was hard to pick anything in the whole experience that was good. Hope this will help save someone from such a horrible experience. When I mentioned to one of the waitresses about our thoughts on how all around bad it was she was sarcastic and said she had other things to do not just wait on us. Again keep in mind one table of 2 was all that was in there other than us. And we arrived at 6 which was supper time !! After speaking to numerous people since they said oh no we don't go for the food and that they to go to the bar and they make good drinks . So if you want a bar atmosphere and maybe apps or sandwiches maybe it would be different one...
