A great place for lunch or dinner. You'll probably have to wait a few minutes. The place is busy busy busy. The food is outstanding. The "Kuntry Katfish":is rushed to you fresh out of the fryer. Cooked home style .It has a nice crispy texture, full of flavor. Forget the knife and fork. You don't need it. They serve hush puppies with green tomato relish..I didn't touch it. I don't really like that stuff. The menu shows the platter is served " Kuntry" style with 2 set sides no substitutions. But you can add something for an extra charge or choose your own two. Frankly I disagree with that idea. This is 2023 not 1965 . But restaurants have their own ideas of how to run their business. The service was different. My friend and I had a waitress( Jamie) that didn't necessarily treat us like customers. It was more like friends hanging out. She was wonderful. Never rushed us, her disposition was very relaxed and friendly. She even made grumpy old me laugh. She didn't try to push us into ordering something, she had no problem answering questions. She always asked if we wanted a drink refill. Before actually doing it. You never know someone might want a different drink or nothing. It's unfortunate Houston restaurants are not like this. The entire experience was fantastic. Prices are close to what you'd see in Houston. The big big big difference here is....wait for it ..........They SPEAK ENGLISH ! YES INDEED 100%GOOD OLD AMERICAN ENGLISH. ...On top of that the order is served right the first time. They have chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken wings other items. But I think the "Kuntry Katfish" is the king of the menu so to speak. And yes they have a variety of desert choices. The only thing I didn't really like too much is the "Kuntry fried French fries" They were thin and flimsy and soggy.. other than that everything was perfect. It is so very rare today to go to a restaurant be it casual or fine dining and get food that is served FRESH and HOT right out of the kitchen. And the entire staff SPEAKS ENGLISH ! DID You catch that Papa's BBQ, Papadeux ,and you other business out there? Go ahead and drop by folks you'll love it. If you have room for desert consider the brownie with ice cream topped with whipped cream and pecans. Ok that's...
Read moreI had this place on my list to try for a while because everybody kept telling me how good it was. I was actually a little disappointed with the food to be perfectly honest. The restaurant was clean and cold (I love this...can't stand a place that thinks anything higher than 71 degrees is acceptable), and the hush-puppies we were given as an appetizer were pretty delicious. The only thing that failed to live up to the hype were the actual dishes my wife and I ordered. We had the catfish fillets of course, and a few different sides including mashed potatoes, green beans, and mac 'n cheese. I wouldn't say the catfish was bad- it just seemed a little plain and underwhelming for what everyone had told us, and very "sandy" batter. The mac n cheese was neon-orange and inedible. It was like the fake, cheez-whiz tasting stuff they serve at KFC- so if you want legit mac n cheese, this is not the place for you. Overall I would say the place was probably good for 1980's cuisine standards, and locals are probably fond of it because it stays the same...which I can respect. I am not one who likes change. But trying it for the first time, it just wasn't my vibe. But who knows, you might like it better than I did. Just avoid the mac and cheese at all costs. I don't know why they thought that was okay to send out of...
Read moreThe only reason I gave it 4 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ and not 5 is because our server was kind of rude. I ordered the grilled Catfish and my husband only wanted a salad so I got 2 salads as the sides. I am diabetic and only weigh 108 and I don't eat a lot. When I ordered the dinner (not knowing that my husband wasn't ordering anything) that it only came with 2 fillets like I could eat more than that. Well these were HUGE FILLETS and I knew this as I have ordered it before so I had my doubts that I would be able to eat the salad and both fillets by myself anyway. However, she acted like it was a problem for her for me to get the smaller portion and I didn't understand why. Then she acted like it was a crime for my husband not to order anything when the only reason we were there was so I could eat something relatively healthy and my husband had already eaten. Other than that she refilled my husband's drink and was attentive so we did leave her a good tip but she really shouldn't try to push larger portions on people when she doesn't know them or how much or what...
