Olive Oil Fried Chicken: 1/5 (I want to give them another shot for this and I'll explain why) BB wings: 5/5 Secret Spicy Flavored Chicken: 5/5 Mozzarella Sticks: 1/5 (Reason for this below as well)
So I was craving some KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) and this place just opened up near me so I decided to check them out. If you've had KFC before then it's exactly what you would expect. Saucy Flavorful Juicy Crispy fried chicken. Same with the wings, crispy and juicy. All of it delicious. At least that's how I initially felt.
I've been to BBQ Chicken twice. First time around GF & I got a Half/Half. Golden Fried x Secret Spicy. Now I gave the Olive Oil Fried Chicken a 1 because the oil they used to fry it in was old. Honestly, the first bite I took I smelled it immediately. I should have said something then and there. That was my own fault but at the same time that shouldn't have been a problem to begin with. I powered through and ended up with stomach issues that lasted for a good 3 days to cleanse out my system. I want to give them a second chance because I'm sure it wasn't their intention to reuse that oil to that point.
We also had the first iteration of the mozzarella sticks (I say first because they changed it) and they were delicious. It was what a true mozzarella stick should be like in my opinion. I took a bite and it was almost a river of cheese bursting from the crispy shell. Paired with the cocktail/ketchup sauce they provide it was divine. However, on our second trip there we find out that they changed the recipe because the chef did not like the state they had it before how it would melt away like that. So we had their second iteration and it was god awful. Once you bite past the surface you're just greeted with a thick stick of mozzarella that was hardly even melted. It was so disappointing. It was equivalent to a frozen product that's how mediocre it was.
I want to give them a second chance to get things straight but for now I'll take my KFC cravings...
Read moreOne of the most popular international Korean Fried Chicken franchising restaurant, and one of the only in Houston area. Located in the Z Tao super market, it is very easy to get to, the place is small bit cozy. Staff is super friendly and gives very good suggestion. They have enough varieties of different flavor of fried chicken to choose from. They also have half and half chicken combo just for people who likes different part of the chicken and combo with different flavor to try.
My favorite was the original olive oil fried chicken wings. The battered skin is crispy, thin and the chicken is very juicy. Because they fry the chicken when the order is placed hence it takes about 20 minutes to serve. Every table will have the daikon to compliment with the fried chicken, so you don't feel greasy. It has a hint of spiciness in it to make it even more interesting, but if you can not eat spicy at all, definitely consult with your waiter.
The garlic bbq chicken is very flavorful, remind me Chinese style dish, definitely on top of my list.
They have a lot of side dishes, cream corn was great, the Korean style sticky rice cake was spicy to the right level. Loves their waffle fries and french fries.
You can also try to Korean Soju, I had the peach flavor, very good and very light. 5 different kind of beers, definitely thoughtful for the people who loves to drink beer with their fried chicken.
Will definitely come back for some more BBQ fix. Highly...
Read moreFirst time trying this place and had a nice experience eating KFC (Korean Fried Chicken)!
My friends and I tried a spread of various items on the menu. For starters, the friendly staff gave us daikon and corn salad. These were the perfect palate cleansers and the perfect thing to prep our tummies for the sticky goodness we were about to devour.
Next we had the takoyaki. It was soft and the filling was delightful. The sausage and Korean rice cake skewers came next (I believe they're an off-menu item?). They were a great savory combo eaten together. We also ordered fries and they were nice and crispy. The highlight of the apps was the tteok bokki! It was piping hot, flavorful and for $2 more you can get it topped with extra melty cheese. Talk about decadent!
Now for the best part...the wings! We tried almost everything between the boneless and bone-in flavors, but my top 3 winners included the boneless Cheesling, Original Golden Olive, and the Wings of Fire. The Cheesling was one of the most unique flavors of wings I've ever had - think of it almost as a cheese-dusted crunchy bite of goodness! The Original Golden Olive was one of the most moist and juicy wings I've ever had, and if you love spicy wings, I'd recommend the Wings of Fire (low key had my nose running but still had great flavor!).
If I'm ever in the area again, I'd definitely make my way over to...
