The word that best sums up my experience is CHAOS.

I visited this restaurant on a Saturday around 12:30 PM for lunch. The places wasn’t very busy, as there were plenty of open tables. However, it was difficult to enter because the cash register is situated right by the door, so the line of folks settling their bills totally blocked the doorway.

As I waited to get in, the angry man running the cash register (owner?) was yelling at a waitress. The staff all looked terribly stressed out.

There is no sign indicating whether you should wait to be seated or seat yourself, so I asked a lady in the checkout line what the protocol was. Seat yourself, she said, so I did.

My drink order (water) was taken by a young lady who obviously didn’t want to be there. The waitress showed up and happened to be the one who was getting yelled at. Oh boy. She took my order (BLT and fries) then disappeared.

I probably waited a good 10 to 15 minutes for my food. During that time, I had an opportunity to look around. I noticed the floor was really dirty. Lots of napkin and straw wrappers, bits of food, etc. Perhaps I had arrived after the lunch rush and they had not had a chance to clean up?

When my food arrived, the BLT was what I would consider the bare minimum. It certainly wasn’t a feast for the eyes. Thin lightly toasted white bread, a few slices of bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, and mayonnaise. Seemed pretty disappointing for $8. The fries were good — crinkle cur and hot. $2

As I ate, my waitress never came back to check on me or to refill my empty 8 ounce water glass. Another disappointment.

When I finished and the waitress brought my check, in addition to the charge for the sandwich and fries, there was another $2.55 charge, which I assume would be for a soft drink (that had not been ordered or consumed). I asked the waitress about it and reminded her that I had had water (only 8 ounces to be exact). She altered the bill as I stood in line to pay.

And, of course, because the placement of the cash register results in blocking the entry, I got to “dance” with folks trying to get in.

Yep, chaos is a good word to describe...

We have been frequent customers for years. We ordered a delivery about 2 weeks ago, were told it would take about 45 minutes and it wasn't there after an hour, so I called. They had closed but at least I didn't get charged, so I marked it up as a mistake. Last week I called for a delivery again and ordered a club sandwich with fries, and a breakfast combo. The young man on the phone seemed very confused so I began asking him to repeat the order as I repeatedly gave it to him. He repeated the sandwich and the fries and that the eggs should be sunny side up and with bacon. I had to make a phone call and, during that call, I saw I was getting a call from a 269 area code. This restaurant is in the 260 area code. If I had seen it was the restaurant calling, I would have ended my call to find out what they may have been missing. Possibly my payment was entered incorrectly. Since it was an unfamiliar 269 area code, I finished the call I was on and then listened to the voicemail from the 269 number. It was someone who said they were from Howe Restaurant asking how I wanted my eggs prepared. I called them back at their 260 number and told them I had missed the call and gotten the voicemail. The lady on the phone said, "Well that was a long time ago". It had been about 15 minutes. She told me the order had gone out for delivery and the eggs were over easy. I tried to explain that I was speaking with someone who seemed inexperienced and I had even had him repeat it back to me. She said that was too bad because I should have answered my phone when they called back. A little bit later the order arrived. I did have over easy eggs and sausage instead of bacon. The french fries were like noodles and the sandwich was soggy. I assume from the time they sat waiting to find out, for the third time, how my eggs should be done? Either way, we have tried but will definitely not...

Tonight (3/4/18) was my first visit to the Howe Restaurant. Everything was fantastic, it is the epitome of a small town diner. No frills, clean restaurant with small-town friendly service and amazing food. The Grecian Salad is the best Greek style salad I've ever had, generous amounts of feta cheese with fresh slices of bell peppers on top of a bed of fresh lettuce with house made Greek dressing on the side. The garden pizza was absolutely delightful, the crust was a Chicago style corn meal crust loaded with fresh veggies and smothered with cheese. A slice of Caramel Apple Cheesecake was the perfect way to end an enjoyable meal. Definitelt recommend trying this fabulous local restaurant if you're in the area and looking for a good dinner.

Me and my dad were on the way back to Evanston from out East and our family suggested this restaurant since it was about one mile off the tollway; it had very high ratings on google for a good reason!! The food is great, the waitresses were really nice and checked on us often. Their Grecian salad and cheeseburgers were really amazing. The salad had great feta and olives, and authentic Greek dressing. The 4 LAYERED chocolate cake was EXTREMELY good. My Dad said his Apple Pie was great and they both came with what seemed like homemade ice cream. You know it’s a good place when you see 4 Amish Horse drawn wagons parked outside with families eating inside! I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area or on a road trip!

Howe Restaurant was an unexpected diamond in the rough during our visit for the Amish Land Volleyball Tournament. Our team met Angelo, the owner, who was very personable and charismatic. When he found out I was also Greek, he sat down with us and told us many interesting stories about his life. The food was awesome! Everybody loves their choices. I had cream cheese stuffed strawberry french toast and I can say there was nothing like it. My taste buds went on vacation this morning. If you're in the area, this restaurant is a must-visit!!
