Solid 3.5 restaurant. The wedge was pretty good. The dressing looked similar to a Caesar. It was light and did not taste nor look like every other wedge. It was quite refreshing to have that change in pace. Bang for your buck item - The pork chop was juicy, flavorful, and came with two sides. The pork chop was cooked to the desired temperature requested. There is a glaze that is drizzled on the plate which paired well with the pork chop. Haricot verts had a char to them and paired with the protein. The blue corn cake was similar to a fried piece of corn bread. The dry aged ribeye came a La carte with a price tag of 60 dollars. To me, it was over priced because the sauce over powered any flavor that one would expect a quality cut of meat to have. Also, it does not come with any sides. In addition, it was not cooked to the desired temperature i requested. I did not report this because the employees were focused on cleaning and I felt like they were ready to leave. There is a sauce and mushrooms on top of the steak which tasted well but as I stated, overpowered the main attraction. The service was okay. We were one of the last reservations. I should have cancelled the reservation and came back on another day. My guest and I felt like we were imposing on the wait staff’s opportunity to leave early. The server encouraged us to sit outside, (because they were cleaning inside) and was wishy washy when we inquired about cancelling the reservation. The server didn’t want to tell me it’s okay to leave but did not want to serve us. I can understand this feeling, I was a server in different types of restaurants. Sometimes you just want to go home. However, I ensured my guests to take their time, stayed personable, and thanked the customers for coming out. We did attempt to be personable with the server only to be met with short responses. We regretted not getting back into the vehicle and coming another time.
So service paired with the steak gave this establishment a 3.5. We will try this place again because I think the vibe of the evening was not there. Maybe they should revise the later reservation time slots to avoid other guests feeling like...
Read moreWe made last minute reservations and snuck in at 8:30pm last night. We went on recommendation from someone and had zero expectations.
It is located by the firehouse in Corrales, across from Ex Novo. You enter through the same door for Fancies Corrales, a bakery/modern market. The entrance has a speak-easy vibe.
The interior of the restaurant is intimate and has a San Fran/Dallas feel, absolutely beautifully put together and allows for very personal service, which we received from the moment we walked in.
Every single table was full when we sat down. We were told it has been like that since they opened early March. We were about to figure out why.
We began our meal with smoked drinks from the bar: Up In Smoke and the Smokey Manhattan. Perfection.
We then ordered food: poached ahi tuna and charred burrata for starters, split 4940 wedge, and loan mountain wagyu picanha and blue nose sea bass for our mains with sides of green chile cheesy grits and fried brussel sprouts. I’m going to let the photos speak for themselves. The ahi was perfectly cooked and the warm, salted bread was the perfect compliment to it. The roasted golden beets with the burrata nearly made me cry with happiness— the vinaigrette it was served with was the perfect mixture of tart sweetness that brought the dish together. The ranch dressing on the wedge was divine. Our main courses: where to begin? The toasted farro with the sea bass was epic, the steak was perfectly cooked, each bite was superb. The grits were the best we have ever had. Ever. The brussel sprouts were crispy, flavorful, and wonderful.
Of course we did dessert: cheesecake and flan. Just when we thought our meal couldn’t get any better, it did. We overheard a gentleman at the bar order 2 flan desserts— for himself. Yes, I agree with him, it was that good. The cheesecake was light and fluffy (who describes cheesecake this way?!) it reminded me of late-night desserts outside the Met with my family in NY.
Go. Just go. Now. I booked my Easter brunch reservation as I sat there finishing my dessert....
Read moreI wish it was better. I made reservations a few weeks ago through Open Table and then I called because I didn’t get an email about it. I spoke to a women, made the reservation, and we even discussed we were celebrating a birthday. However, when we arrived there was no reservation!! 😮 We were seated out in the patio which was lovely but the metal chairs were awful and uncomfortable. The kind of discomfort that makes you think they want you to eat and run. There were 4 people. We started with Root Tacos. The celery root was inedible. Every plate had the celery root uneaten but the tacos were delicious anyways. Disappointing. We ordered a salad, only one, it looked beautiful and it tasted good but it could’ve used a sweet element like blueberries or candied nuts. There were edible fresh flowers that made the plate look so pretty. Aside from the flowers it was just Spring mix & dressing for $16. For dinner we ordered Sea bass, stuffed chicken breast, the blueberry infused pasta, and a rib eye. The sea bass was mostly good. The chicken was delish on first bite, but as it turned to room temperature it ended up being dry and only half was eaten. The infused pasta sounded good but it was just okay, most of it left uneaten. The Ribeye was a big hit! Medium rare, which is closer to rare than medium. The entire plate was the best choice! We were celebrating a birthday and agreed on the sounded delicious very chocolate cake. IT WAS SO DRY, AND THE CAKE TASTED LIKE NOTHING, WHICH SEEMED TO THE LEFT PIECE FROM THE CAKE THAT WAS MADE YESTERDAY. It was so disappointing that there were four people and we left have the piece. We each had a cocktail, a 2 people had a glass of wine. The bill was $370, with tip it was $440. When the food is an experience, the money doesn’t matter. This dinner was more of a flop than a meal to rave about. We discussed how many other things we could’ve bought for $440, like plane ticket, it was a huge disappointment...
