My wife and I went to Stone Soup Cottage for our anniversary dinner recently. We had been wanting to go for a couple of years but never made the time. I can state with absolute conviction that the wait was worth it, SSC provided us with one of the finest meals we had ever eaten!
We arrived at 6:20pm (dinner starts at 7pm) and ordered cocktails to start off. Once they arrived we walked out onto the patio and took in the beautiful valley, trees, small lake and cozy patio. The sun was peering down on us from a bright blue sky. We marvelled at both the setting and the building itself. Reclaimed barnwood and stone were used heavily both inside and out, creating a rustic, beautiful atmosphere.
The dinner process itself was a thing of wonder. Expect the 6-7 courses to take approximately 2.5 to 3 hours to complete. The food was served plated to perfection, well spaced out to provide time to both enjoy the selection in front of you and to build anticipation for the next treat to come from the kitchen. Carl, the chef, came out and personally delivered the plates with his staff. He was a fantastically warm and engaging man and made you feel not only welcomed but as if he was honored to have your presence there.
Every plate that came to us brought a smile and a new admiration for Carl and his ability to create delicious experiences my boring engineer mind thrilled over.
1st: Chilled pisto soup 2nd: Spring farm salad with Cantal cheese & Ramp souffle 3rd: Florida red snapper w/ ginger, spring peas and pork belly beignet Intermezzo: Rhubard sorbet with rosemary essence 4th: Wild mushroom lasagna with green tomato marina and garden herbs 5th: Coq au vin w/italian truffles and buttermilk biscuit 6th: Salted caramel pot de creme with milk chocolate tuile
Each new item that came brought new flavors, new visual artistry and new levels of appreciation for the chef. The experience here is one to be savored and warmly remembered. Whether you are looking for a new culinary experience, a chance to eat at the table of a master chef or celebrating an important personal milestone, you will be thrilled. Take the time to make a reservation at Stone Soup Cottage and create a lasting memory of what the pinnacle of food...
Read moreWow! I have been wanting to try this restaurant for over a year since I first seen a write up on it. Worth the wait. If you ever wanted to treat yourself to a truly fine dining experience this is the place.
Everything is well presented, the staff is top notch in every way. Expect 3 hours for dinner which by the end I was wanting more. Food is locally sourced or grown right there on their land. The building is very quaint and charming. The whole production must be seen to believe.
Manager Kyle is super nice and makes sure you want for nothing. Chef Carl with the help if his staff presents each dish to you personally and describes what you are about to experience. I'll say after the second course I was almost giddy with anticipation for each new item that was going to be presented.
Do yourself a favor get a group of 4 or 6 and make plans to visit Stone Soup Cottage. I counted I think 40 people so that give you an idea of the maximum they serve per dinner. You will have to make reservations months in advance so plan ahead. You will not be disappointed.
My only regret is waiting so long into the year that I could not see the entire grounds in day light as it is dark by 5pm. (Dinner is served at 7pm) This is not a problem as this just gives me another excuse to come back in the spring. =)
Thank you again Carl, Kyle and staff for a truly amazing experience in dining, everything was excellent and very delicious. I...
Read moreFood is amazing! I have had the fortunate experience of eating here on three occasions. The most recent one did make me wonder if I will be back. Don’t get me wrong, the food is SO amazing. However, we did not end up doing the wine pairings this time, and realized that because of that, service was compromised and left us a little wanting from the time we arrived all the way through the 3-hr meal. On arrival 30 min before the dinner, we had to go find someone to see if we could get a pre-dinner drink. The owner apologized and served us directly, which was nice… but we took this drink into the dining room for dinner and were NEVER asked again if we wanted more… there were 4 of us! And this was through an entire 3-hr meal. We each separately had to chase down servers to get a second drink. In hindsight this seems kind of petty, but with an experience like Stone Soup, I expected them to be a little more on top of service. The owners were on par with serving meals and asking how it was.. but having to chase down people to see if we could have a second drink left our party a little wanting. It made me wonder if a fourth trip was in our...
