We ordered Take Out a couple of weeks ago for a Friday Night in. We have been wanting to try Root'd because of all of the great reviews but we are not yet eating out in restaurants due to COVID. We also are excited to support our locally owned restaurants in Cottonwood Heights. Take out was quick (they are located very close to our home). My husband loved his Mama Bird Burger. The French fries were also super tasty and so was the fry sauce. I ordered the Mahi Mahi Sandwich and was disappointed. For the price, I would expect a full Mahi Mahi Filet to be on the sandwich. Instead I received a big heap of slaw (which tasted very good) and two very small tail pieces of fish. It was more of a Slaw Sandwich than a fish sandwich. The flavor was great, but the execution was disappointing. My daughter had the mac and cheese. It was cheesy and very rich with the pancetta and leeks. You certainly cannot eat very much of it in one sitting. Finally, we ordered some Beignets for dessert. The jam is nice and tart and clearly made in house. But, the beignets were over-cooked and fairly greasy. In my experience Beignets should be light and not super dense nor greasy. Again, the flavor of the Beignets was very nice with a good hint of cinnamon, but the grease impacted the overall flavor. Overall, we would give Root'd another try for their burger and awesome fries. Perhaps we would try them for breakfast one day too. I would order the Mahi Mahi Sandwich again if the chef would be sure to include a good sized filet because the flavors were wonderful. Overall, we will give them one more try to see if they are worth becoming one of our regular take-out or eat in places. Update 2024: I have been back 3 more times to Root'd. Brunch is really tasty! I loved the breakfast burrito. Also, the Berry Mocktail was super tasty with brunch. Both times I dined in the restaurant the wait staff were fantastic.

Little hip place for brekki! There's such a cool vibe here, from all the plants (and fake plants) to the servers. We ordered the French Dip, a Benedict, and the Monte Cristo sandwich. The Monte Cristo bun was magical, though I could've used maybe one more slice of ham. The French dip was good too, though the au jus could've used more rosemary since they advertised it as a rosemary au jus. The Benedict was good and well-executed. The hash brown side were uneventful and could use more salt, fat, and/or additional time on the grill to get them crisper. We also got the lemon bar and brownie to try and both were good. I would've preferred a more crispy crust on the lemon bar, but the lemon curd was creamy and smooth and zingy--everything you hope for! The brownie had great tooth and chew to it and was not dry (yay!). The service was OUTSTANDING. He was attentive and really accommodating to our party of 4 with 4m3 different checks. Overall, we enjoyed it and we'll be back!

Went there for brunch on Saturday. Mixed review - hard to write. Small but interesting menu. We started with a mimosa and a bloody. The mimosa appeared small, but the glass was deceivingly large. The toppings (shrimp, cucumber, celery, carrot, olives) on the bloody were great, but the mix was disappointing. It tasted weird - perhaps too much pickled juice. I would have preferred any store bought mix. The avocado toast was BIG and tasty. The Monte Cristo was BIG, but was very light on the meat, cheese, and jam. A better name would be "Special French Toast". The huevos rancheros were interesting and filling. Two eggs atop two chorizo stuffed tortillas atop hash browns. I substituted chili verde for the chorizo which turned out to be a mistake - a weird spice and more sweet than spicy. The service (Megan) was adequate, but a little standoffish. She became more friendly when we tipped her 30%. Perhaps having a bad morning. Overall, good but not great.

My 1 star review is based 100% on the customer service at this place. The food was actually tasty but we were treated HORRIBLY! We drove 30 Minutes to try root’d and were told once we got there the wait was 30 minutes (we were happy to wait) and they would text us when the table was ready. We waited in the car but then headed in at the 30 min mark to use the restroom. At that point we were told there was 1 group ahead of us so we waited inside. The hostess offered to place a to go order for us. I asked her if we could place the to go order but remain on the waitlist and if a table was available before the food was ready we would stay. If the table wasn’t ready we would just take the food to go. She said that would be fine. So the 4 of us placed our order and paid for our food - WE ALL LEFT A TIP not even knowing if we would be dining in. Right after we placed our order the hostess came and got us and said our table was ready. 3 of us got our food (served in the to go boxes, which we were fine with) right away but no napkins, water, condiments or silverware on the table. So we asked the hostess, who also brought us our food, for silverware and she said she would bring it right back. We waited for a while then my mom heads up to the counter to ask for the silverware again. THIS IS WHERE IT WENT BAD!! My mom was told by another server there was a mistake and we were actually given someone else’s table AND THEY ASKED US TO LEAVE!!!! I was in shock when she came back and told us that. And we were still missing our silverware, 2 drinks and 1 entire meal! So after waiting another 5 min while our food gets cold I decided to go ask one more time for the silverware. The one older man (majority of the employees were younger with the exception of this man) at counter was very rude to me and said he would bring the silverware, this is the 3rd time we asked for our silverware to eat the food we already paid for!! I reminded him we were missing a meal as well, he then handed me 3 to go packs of silverware and said ok. We were completely ignored the entire time we were there, treated as though we had done something wrong, and asked to leave! Never in my life have I been treated like that or left a review this long. I am appalled that someone in the restaurant business would treat the customer this way. I am not sure who made the mistake or if there was a mistake but we certainly did nothing to justify this kind of treatment!! We were kind and polite the whole time, even after being ignored.

I really am not one to leave reviews, if anything I would prefer to leave a good review over a bad but you better believe I will tell everyone I can about this...

Went here today with my sisters and Ma off the recommendation of one sister. The place was super crowded packed, and it was so loud you could barely hear each other speak. This was okay overall, we didnt expect silence obviously, but it was a lot.

We were told as we tried to order that they were completely out of french toast, which was disappointing as that was what I was looking forward to. This happens, and normally it wouldn't have bothered at all except as we got up to use the restroom and again at the end of our meal, other patrons had french toast who got there at the same time or after us, so im not sure why our waitress said that.

My ma and 2 sisters' meals seemed okay, though one sister said last time hers was better put together vs thrown into a pile like today. But they liked their flavors. Mine, however, was bad. I did biscuits and gravy, since I couldn't do french toast, which were mediocre on their own, and they came with 2 eggs that I ordered over easy. My waitress brought it to me saying and I quote, "ha so... it kind of seems like your eggs exploded" and then dropped my plate off and rushed away. Didn't even try to offer to have them made again or ask if i was okay with it not being how i asked. One yolk was broken after cooking and had already leaked out entirely and the other must have broken during cooking and was cooked over hard.

As someone who was a waitress for years, I get that busy days are chaotic and frustrating. But the service was awful, and the food just wasn't worth it. I can't speak for how the others felt about their meals but mine was a tragic attempt at cooking eggs proper, mediocre flavors, and poor service in regards to my meal being messed up.

The ONLY redeeming quality of this place in my eyes were the beignets. Can't say anything else impressed me and the weird french toast thing was a put off. I won't be coming back for another chance. Waste of money and a...
