Mike & Mookie's Small Town Diner — Restaurant in Creola

I ate there last week during the seafood buffet. The seafood tastes like it was all frozen and prebatttered. The shrimp had very hard ends in them that I almost couldn’t bite through. The oysters were just mush and had a very strong flavor that oysters get when they are not fresh and the fish as rubbery. The corn was a very dark brown color and when asked about it I was told that corn just does that when you keep cooking it down and the taste and texture were as such that it was probably recycled corn from a number of days on the buffet. The cabbage in the coleslaw was brown and turned into a soft mush. The sauce in the coleslaw however was fantastic and I believe on flesh cabbage would have been wonderful. The saving grace were the ribs. They were very good, had a great Smokey flavor and cooked beautifully. The max and cheese also was very good. When we got there right at noon there were only 2 other people there and the food on the buffet was full and didn’t appear to have been eaten out of much so I fear they are reusing things longer than they should. MOBILE, SATSUMA, PRICHARD, CREOLA, MCINTOSH, AND SURROUNDING AREAS!!!! Babyyyyyy.... let me tell y'all about a new spot I just tried today. I heard about Mike & Mookie's Small Town Diner on the radio, and decided to go support a small local business. There was not one thing that I tasted and didn't love... not like, LOVE! This place is small, but packs a powerful punch! I could literally taste the love in the food. I tasted a little bit of everything, and the mister said it was the best burger he's ever eaten... EVER! They didn't have seafood on the buffet today, but the owners heard me say I wanted to try the fish, and brought me out fish AND oysters. Greens, yams, turkey necks, the best mac-n-cheese in the city, smoked chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, banana pudding, etc. This was my cheat meal for the month, but I have two words for you ... JUST GO!!! I don't know the last time I've had food that good that didn't come out of my own kitchen. 12/10 stars! The nicest owners ever!

Wow, this was amazing! So glad we came off the highway to find this place. Right when we walked in the door, Cooper welcomed us and made us feel right at home. I was going order off the menu, but when my husband got the gumbo off the buffet, I joined him. The barbecue was well smoked and a little bit spicy, just right. I had delicious greens, beans and yams that weren't too sweet and had just a hint of citrus.

Cooper took really good care of us with friendly, attentive service, and checked in to see if we needed anything, napkins, refills on drinks, or plates cleared. He was easy-going and interesting to talk with and made our dinner even more interesting. He's a really good listener and pays attention to details. If he ever decided to get a career in human services, counseling or psychology, he would be highly successful at it!

Next time we'll order off the menu, but tonight we leave with full bellies...
