We recently spent the night in Klamath on our northern California vacation. The area is fairly remote, so the hotel recommended The Blue Ox Cafe as a close option for dinner. The restaurant is located directly across the street from the Trees of Mystery tourist attraction. You can't miss it thanks to the giant fiberglass figures of Paul Bunyon and his big blue ox Babe in front of Trees of Mystery. The inside of the restaurant was charming with the feel of an airy mountain cabin. Seating is well spaced, so you are not dining immediately next to another table. There are very cool antler (elk?) chandeliers for lighting. Unfortunately, the food was not up to par with the atmosphere. I had the fish tacos and they were fairly bland. To be fair, I left off the cabbage which might have helped the flavor. Service was very good and friendly, however. All told, I would have rather driven further to Crescent City to see what else we might have found.

The staff were all friendly. I got a simple bacon cheeseburger, my wife ordered the Strawberry pecan salad. The cheese burger was very good and my wife really enjoyed the salad. The 1/3rd pound hamburger I ordered was even a bit pink on the inside, the way I like it. I mentioned that the staff were all friendly, but specifically our server Kira was amazing! Ask for her if you can. She gets five stars!

My brother and I ate four meals during our visit to the Redwoods at this restaurant. I am a meat and potatoes guy. I had the meatloaf, the chicken fried steak, and ventured out of my comfort zone and had fish tacos. All were excellent! We found no reason to eat anywhere else during our visit. Dani was a great server and conversationalist.
