The cons...
Instead of the hostess greeting us, she sat in her chair and asked us how many in our party before she ever stood up. She was nice enough, just not welcoming or well trained.
The place smells like an old church basement. The carpets are extremely dirty! (You can see in the photo. No that's not some kind of shadow, its just cleaner close to the walls were people don't walk) Not just old, or a stain here and there. It was absolutely filthy! If the dining room is that dirty, it makes you wonder what the kitchen (that customers don't see) looks like. The texture is falling off the cracking ceiling, huge cracks in the walls.
Our waitress brought our drinks out carrying them by the rim of the glass. Umm... Could I have a straw please? The soup bowls are at the table when you are seated, but the waitress takes them off the table after you order, and back into the kitchen to fill them. When the bowls are at the table, the wait staff is to bring a pot of soup and ladle it into your bowl. So ya... that was weird. When she brought our salads her thumb was actually on top of the lettuce! The sad little plate of lettuce was squished flat. I am guessing they make them up ahead of time and stack one on top of the next in the refrigerator? When the waitress sat down our salads I told her I had changed my mind and didn't want it. She never asked if something was wrong. I would have politely told her for future reference not to put her thumb in peoples food.
I had the chicken alfredo. It was grainy- gritty, paste on noodles. I only had one bite and my husband had one bite. We did get a laugh at how absurdly awful it was. It was served with a thumb in the sauce and 2 pieces of garlic bread. About 1/4 of each slice was burnt BLACK. But the flavor was much worse then it looked. I tried the not black end and it tasted like it had been cooked in an oven that had just recovered from a grease fire. I would guess that it was just that dirty. My husband tried a bite and complained for quite a while that he couldn't get the rancid grease taste out of his mouth.
My husband ordered a prime rib. (it is $25 now for a regular cut and that's high for the area.) He ordered medium and it was very rare. It was chewy (as most rare prime rib is) and not much flavor. Once again, I had a bite and he maybe finished 1/4 of it. Just a disappointing piece of meat. It was served with a plate of hash browns set directly on top of his prime rib. Why on earth don't they use a dam tray!!
NOTHING is served on a tray! The waitstaff just pile plates on top of each other, carry your drink around the rim and trot out into the dining room with them! I don't get it! It wasn't just our waitress, it was everyone we saw. One gal had to have had 6-7 salads stacked up on top of each other, leaned up against her chest on her way to serve her table. Come on, you are supposed to be a nice steak house! Village Inn has more class than this.
It was obvious that there had only been 1 or 2 very small bites out of the chicken alfredo. our waitress asked if I would like a to-go box and I told her no and that it tasted awful. Without apology, she then asked my husband if he would like one and he told her yes, the dog might enjoy it.
She brought out our bill with absolutely no adjustment ( I would have expected to just be charged for soup and bread/butter). The waitress should have informed the manager that we were unhappy, but my husband had to ask to see the manager and tell her to take the alfredo off our bill. It still cost us $40 for bread, soup, Iced tea, lemonade, and the dog's dinner.
Pros... The iced tea was fresh and brewed. The lemonade was above average. The fresh-baked bread was fresh, warm and good. The ham and potato soup was good. The waitress didn't put her finger in the prime rib au jus. The waitress was attentive and pleasant. Her mistakes were down to lack of training/ poor management. The hash browns were good. The dog enjoyed his prime rib. We stopped at McDonald's on...
Read moreThis is the 1st time in my life I ever ate Prime Rib. 1st time in my life I've ever been to this restraunt. The Pink Poodle. The food was good. The waitress was elderly, so I take that into account when it comes to not saying anything in person. I was trying not to be rude. But when you have a bowl of soup siting by you and you're not done with it, that does not mean it's ok for the waitress to just snatch it up and take it away without saying a word. When the waitress brought our Prime Rib Dinner plates out, I had my salad sitting right in front of me. I only took 2/3 bites out of it. I have a cast in my right arm from surgery. So I'm limited on my reach. As I was sitting there, with my fork under my food, getting ready robtak another bite, the waitress RUDELY shoved/pushed my salad plate out of her way, then put the dinner plate where I had my salad plate, that was still FULL OF SALAD & FOOD. And bit only did she do that very rudely, she also had her fingers LITERALLY undery salad, and my fork as she shoved it out if her way, reaching her arm in front of my face and over all my food. If I was there by myself and alone,I would have not even taken one bite out of the FIRST PRIME RIB I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LUFE (39 YEARS OLD). Because I would've asked for my money back and gone to Burger King or Hardee's or even Fazolis. This place is interesting, and at first I really loved it. Then came the attitudes and the cold food, and the rude Waitress. I understand she's older, and maybe stressed out, but I've cooked for over 14 years. And those are things you absolutely do NOT do. 1) You do NIT take someone's plate unless they are done and you ASK IF ITS OKAY DIRST. 2) You do NOT touch, push,or move the customer's plate with food on it while they are eating. 3) You do NOT reach over the customer's plate to sit down something,or pick up something. You do NOT touch their food, nor their silverware that they are using to eat with and put in their mouths.4) you do NOT reach any part of your body, hand, arm over food, across the table, nor in front of their faces by inches, that is freshly served and ready to be ate by the CUSTOMER. Her manner was aggressive, rude, and she was rushing me. The ONLY reason I did not say something to her and walk out with my money,is because I realized she was an elderly lady, and my Mother was with me. I also do not believe in being mean to others, and I can say this much. For her age,she was sound good. But sometimes people are just not meant for certain things. Like elderly driver's that are doing 40 mph on the Interstate when the speed limit is 65/70 mph and rush hour traffic.... I don't think I'll be coming back to this place anytime soon. And it's not just because of the waitress. It's all of it.the gas smell, the cold food, being rushed,etc... That...isy memory of my first time experience at Pink Poodle in Crescent Iowa, as well as my first Time experience eating Prime Rib. Sorry, but that's my review. And this is The...

Cons Service was so slow. Waited for almost half an hour just for the soup and salad before main course dishes were served. Interior decor is outdated. We felt that we were being discriminated by skin color and/or religion. The older lady who seated us appeared to be racist or against the Catholic religion (my brother was dressed in a cassock) as she wanted to seat the couple behind us first, even though we arrived first (which didn't make any sense to me at all and the behavior appeared to be obvious).
Pros Aside from the negative experience and an unpleasant welcome from the lady who seated us, our waiter was nice. The Club and New York steaks that we had were delicious and moist. They were perfectly cooked. It was nice that they left all the salad dressing available on the table (about 6 to choose from), so we could use as much as we liked.
Overall, I would definitely not mind the drive out to Pink Poodle had they provide better customer service. Because of this horrible experience, I will never return to this place. We were never welcomed to be here anyways. And this restaurant had given us bad impressions about the state of Iowa.
Response to the owner:
Yes, this review is based on my experience from 2016. I did put in a Yelp review back then but want to make certain that this gets reviewed on Google so that others are aware when they look at reviews when choosing restaurants.
FYI, I am not the type of person who plays the race/religion card, but no one else should be experiencing what we have experienced in the past. That behavior is unacceptable.
And you choose to avoid addressing this issue by pretending to ask me if this review was based on my...
