Update: Well it's been awhile since I was last here. Going in with more reasonable expectations this time. The atmosphere is still on par.
I ordered the Bacon Candy ($) and the Flat Iron Pork Steak ($). The Bacon Candy is exceptional. I don't get the caramel and chocolate sauce that comes with it, however the Bacon Candy itself is wonderful. Just what candied bacon should be. The Pork Steak was excellent. It was juicy and flavorful. The baked potato I got with it was also very good. The person I was with ordered the Steak ($). It was stated to be cooked perfectly to a medium rare and was very tasty. Multiple times it was mentioned how good the onion rings were. Lastly the third person I was with just ordered a basket of fries and enjoyed her meal.
Overall this time was a full 5 star review. Would I return? Absolutely.
The atmosphere here is kinda of an old fashioned western restaurant. Lots of wood with wooden carvings on the wall. A little dark inside, but not too bad.
I ordered the Pork Chops with fries and onion rings. I had heard how amazing the pork chops were, one even saying it was the best he'd ever had. So I think I went in with expectations too high. I say this because I found it good, maybe even very good. However not stellar. The onion rings were very good. The fries were ok.
The service was good, but slow. They were kinda busy so I'll forgive that.
Overall I'm giving them 3 1/2 stars. I'll round up to 4. Would I return? Maybe! One clear positive is portion size...
Read more5 stars for the food and service but only 1 for atmosphere, and everyone seems to love Turks atmosphere so what gives? Read on!
Finally went to dine in after years of Turks takeout and figured that first available was the way to go even if it meant being seated in the overflow area to the side of the building. I mean, it's early January and 28 degrees outside so that room would have to be somewhat insulated, right..? Nope, totally got that one wrong.
Instead, to compensate, there is a ginormous infrared heater toward the ceiling that literally broils your head and any exposed areas like arms, neck, etc. And 'broils' is not overstating, think opening an oven door that's been pegged at 400 degrees and putting your head, arm, etc. directly above it..only for 45 mins or however long you're there for dinner.
The waitress was super apologetic explaining that given the temp outside there was nothing she could do as adjusting the thermostat was essentially useless, it would just stay on incinerator mode no matter what. Add to that three large propane tank powered tiki torches that are running at full blast..in an enclosed room..?
So to the owners of this legendary establishment, what gives? There's no way that overflow area should be open for dining when temperatures drop to a certain point...like 28 degrees. If you can't (or won't) properly insulate this room it should not be a seating option during the winter...
Read moreI had high expectations because of the reviews. It’s typical pub food, even greasier than usual. There was not an iota of salt or any seasoning of any kind at all. I ordered the special for the day- cod with a lemon butter and a vegetable hash. The cod had zero flavor, zero butter or fat of any kind, the vegetables were carrots, kale, and red peppers, barely steamed with absolutely no seasoning or anything! The whole thing was tasteless. The onion rings are simply big- but very greasy and nothing special other than size. The burger was a Sysco patty that had no flavors or seasonings at all. The fries were extra greasy. The cocktail I got was since LT sweet, and had no unique flavors or ideas or anything. Cocktails are so easy to make unique! The Reuben was ok, definitely not the best around. Simply OK. The liver pate was not good, and I love liver pâté! It had a bad lingering aftertaste. Amazingly sub paar for the price. It was decorated nicely for the holidays, and our server was kind. Do yourself a favor and get food with delicious robust flavors like at Dr Rolf’s BBQ and some actually good drinks at the Grand Armory Brewery in...
