Taqueria El Tenampa — Restaurant in Cromwell

Was feeling taco Tuesday yesterday 4/15 and decided to give this spot a try after a conversation with a barista at Tony's Flour Shop across the way. We ordered chips and guacamole, which was very good, the highlight was definitely the guac as it was so fresh and flavorful. No generic blended guacamole here! We ordered steak tacos, tacos al pastor and the carnitas tacos. All were delicious, and the bill for 4 tacos and the appetizer was an astoundingly low $20 and change. Note their card machine doesn't take tips so be kind (especially if dining in, because the table service was EXCELLENT and friendly). The salsas on offer were both on the mild side, but very nice additions to the meal. The corn tortillas were a good texture and all the ingredients screamed quality. A couple things to know. If you're in a hurry, just go to a fast food restaurant. It never bothers me, but the food is cooked fresh and takes a bit longer than you may expect to arrive at your table. It's a price you pay for well prepared, from scratch fare. If you plan on dining in, this used to be a small Subway back in the day, so the seating is limited to about 4 tables and none are large. They did a nice job with the color palette to dress it up but you're not going to take your date here for a fancy experience. This taco place is absolutely amazing… great food great service. Would have given five stars but they definitely need some work with organization and convenience. This is a “take out” spot and I can’t find their menu anywhere. I could only find a picture of a menu on Google. You guys are a business with a GREAT product, why don’t you want to make it easy for your customers to order the food and pick it up? Definitely need to post a REAL menu somewhere. After I ordered I saw other food items being prepared and also side dishes, none of which was on the menu… please I want to see this restaurant succeed and do well! Get your logistics together and this will be a 5 star take out...

We had the chicken, steak, and pastor tacos along with chips and guac. The steak and chicken was tasty, but the al pastor could’ve been a bit more flavorful for my taste. However, everything was made fresh to order (so make sure to call ahead if you’re in a rush). The style reminds of when you’d go over your friend’s house for lunch and their mom makes you everything from scratch.

The staff was very friendly and polite. There’s some tables to dine in and a bathroom as well. I also felt that prices were reasonable.
