Mel’s Drive Thru Chicken and BBQ — Restaurant in Cuba

AWEFUL PLACE!!!!!!! THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!! WE HAD 6 PEOPLE THAT WENT IN AND ORDERED FOOD. THEY DIDN'T PUT EVERYTHING IN OUR ORDER. THE ONE THING I PERSONALLY ORDERED DIDN'T EVEN MAKE IT ON THE ORDER, AS WELL AS SOMEONE ELSE'S ORDER. WE WERE THERE FOR MORE THAN 30 MINUTES WAITING FOR OUR FOOD AND THEY GOT ALMOST EVERYTHING WRONG. WHEN WE WERE ORDERING IT WAS 12:25 (LUNCH TIME) I ORDERED FRIES AND A BEEF BRISKET TACO. THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE OUT OF BRISKET AND WEREN'T MAKING FRIES RIGHT NOW. SO I THEN ORDERED A PINEAPPLE SUNDAY AND SOME PULLED PORK TACOS, WELL.. THEY FORGOT TO PUT THE PINEAPPLE SUNDAY ON THE ORDER AND THEY DIDN'T TELL US UNTIL WE'D ALREADY BEEN THERE FOR MORE THAN 30 MINUTES. ONE MORE THING, I CANT EAT GLUTEN SO I ASKED TO MAKE SURE THE TACO SHELLS WERE CORN AND THEY ASSURED ME THEY WERE SO I TOOK A COUPLE OF BITES BEFORE I REALIZED THEY WERE WHEAT TACO SHELLS. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE WHERE THEY ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT...

We travel through Cuba frequently throughout the year. We have visited several eating establishments and left unimpressed with the quality of their food and the price. We decided to give Mel's a try. Having nine in our group, we ordered the roasted chicken, the tacos, the wrap, the hamburger, and the three piece chicken dinner. Each entrée was delicious! The roasted chicken was perhaps the best chicken we have ever eaten. The breast was hot and juicy. You have to give their BBQ sauce a try. The flavor starts with a sweet BBQ sauce and then has a slight, but wonderful, burn. It is addicting! While we shared the sauce, some of us wanted to drink it! The service was amazing! The employees called on us several times to check our needs. This place is a real jewel in Cuba! We will definitely stop here on our next trip. We will probably eat one and take another of their roasted chickens...

Wow! Stopped for lunch. Brisket sandwich is enough for two people. Mashed Potatoes with country gravy were very good also. My kids got the usual chicken tenders and chicken breast with fries, no complaints from them! Husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich and he said it was very good, too. Our sandwiches were so yummy that we forgot until we were done that we had requested grilled onions on each of them. Honestly, I don’t think it would have made them any better. Definitely a great choice for travelers looking something different than fast food. Service was great. We sat outside on patio as inside services are not available at this time.
